After flying into Lukla, the route follows the Khumbu trail as far as Namche Bazaar and Khumjung, with a highlight hike up to Everest View Hotel for a wide panorama of Everest and neighbouring peaks from the terrace. Walking days are kept to around three to five hours, giving time to enjoy villages, wildlife and mountain views without long daily distances.
Nights are spent in hotels and lodges along the route, with twin rooms, shared facilities higher up, and hot meals in communal dining rooms. The return route retraces the trail back to Lukla before a short flight home to Kathmandu.
Designing a shorter Khumbu route that still delivers genuine Everest views takes careful knowledge of the trail, pacing and the best viewpoints along the way. Guides bring exactly that experience, tailoring each day to suit families, first timers or anyone short on time.
Flights, permits and lodge bookings are handled well in advance, so the only real decision left is how much time to spend admiring the views from Everest View Hotel. Support runs from the airport welcome in Kathmandu right through to the final farewell.
Namche Bazaar and the surrounding villages sit within Sagarmatha National Park, the high valley system beneath Everest that has been home to Sherpa communities for centuries. Even on a shorter trip, the trail passes through pine forest, suspension bridges and traditional stone villages that define the wider Khumbu.
Khumjung, one of the highlights of the route, is a traditional Sherpa village with limited farming terraces set against a backdrop of towering peaks. Kathmandu, the start and end point of the trip, offers a striking contrast with its markets, temples and valley setting, with a hotel pickup collecting guests ahead of the flight to Lukla and again on the return leg.
Nights on the trail are spent in hotels and lodges along the route, with twin rooms and shared facilities higher up, plus a hotel night in Kathmandu at each end of the trip. The overnight at Everest View Hotel itself is a highlight, reputedly the highest altitude hotel in the world.
Hot meals are served in communal dining rooms each evening, a comfortable end to the shorter walking days on this route. Given the gentler pace and lower altitude compared with a full base camp trek, a warm layer is generally sufficient rather than a full winter sleeping bag.
