Coasteering combines climbing, scrambling, swimming, and sea jumps into one coastal adventure, giving participants the chance to explore hidden sections of the shoreline that are rarely seen from land. Guided by experienced instructors around the Newquay coastline, these sessions are designed for adventurous beginners and confident water lovers looking for an active experience in the sea.
Your session begins with equipment fitting and a safety briefing covering movement techniques, water entry methods, swimming routes, and how to navigate the coastline safely. Instructors explain the route and adapt the pace depending on the group’s confidence and sea conditions on the day. Once ready, the group heads out along the coastline to begin exploring areas that are normally inaccessible from the shore.
Throughout the session, participants climb over rocks, swim through sea channels, scramble across natural features, and jump into the water from a variety of heights where conditions allow. Instructors guide the group step-by-step, with all jumps optional and alternative routes available where needed. The activity focuses as much on confidence and teamwork as it does adventure, allowing participants to challenge themselves at their own pace.
As the route continues, the coastline opens up into sea caves, rock formations, and deep-water sections that give the experience a constantly changing feel. The combination of swimming, climbing, and exploring creates an active session that is suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness and confidence in the sea.
Newquay’s coastline is one of Cornwall’s best-known outdoor adventure areas, with rocky headlands, sea caves, tidal pools, and open Atlantic water creating ideal conditions for coasteering. The varied coastline allows routes to be adapted depending on conditions while still offering plenty of opportunities for climbing, swimming, and sea jumps.
Located on Cornwall’s north coast, Newquay is surrounded by beaches, cliff paths, cafés, and coastal viewpoints, making it a popular destination for watersports and outdoor activities throughout the year. Meeting locations are selected based on the day’s route and sea conditions to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.
Participants must be aged 8 years or older and should feel comfortable swimming in open water. A reasonable level of fitness is important, as the activity involves swimming, climbing, scrambling, and moving across uneven coastal terrain during the session.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult unless arranged in advance. No previous coasteering experience is required, as instructors provide full safety guidance and coaching throughout the activity.
Sessions are led by experienced coasteering guides and qualified beach lifeguards with extensive knowledge of the local coastline and sea conditions. Safety, confidence-building, and enjoyment remain at the centre of the experience, allowing participants to challenge themselves while feeling supported throughout the route.
Quality equipment, small group management, and carefully selected coastal routes help create a well-organised and memorable session suitable for a wide range of experience levels. The changing nature of the coastline also means every coasteering experience feels slightly different depending on conditions and the route chosen.
