Learn to stand-up paddleboard with a personalised 1-1 lesson on the non-tidal River Thames in Surrey. Perfect for beginners or those looking to refine their technique, this 90-minute session allows you to progress at your own pace with dedicated guidance from an experienced instructor. Lessons are tailored to your comfort level, whether you want to master basic skills or confidently stand and paddle along the river.
Sessions begin with an equipment overview and safety briefing on dry land, covering essential river safety and paddleboarding basics. Once comfortable, you move onto the calm, non-tidal waters from our private pontoon, allowing you to focus fully on learning without distraction.
You’ll start by practising manoeuvres while kneeling before progressing to the standing position when you feel ready. Throughout the lesson, you’ll explore the local river environment, taking in islands, bridges, and wildlife. The pace is entirely yours, with the instructor providing guidance and encouragement rather than pressure.
Lessons launch from a private pontoon on the River Thames in West Molesey, Surrey, a quiet stretch of river ideal for learning. The non-tidal water ensures a safe environment with minimal current, making it easier to focus on technique and enjoy your time on the board.
The surrounding area offers scenic views and a calm atmosphere, providing an immersive experience in nature while remaining accessible for all skill levels. Local amenities such as car parking, bike storage, lockers, and restrooms are conveniently located nearby.

No, our 1-1 lesson is suitable for beginners of all ages.
We recommend quick-drying sportswear and advise against cotton or denim.
A question we get asked often by our visitors, the paddleboard is designed for bare feet to grip, so shoes will not be essential. So, when it is warm you can go bare foot no problem.
However, in the colder months, you might want something to keep you a bit warmer like neoprene boots.
It is possible to paddleboard without knowing how to swim, although wearing a life vest will be essential. Therefore, it will be better it if you know how to swim as it is without a doubt that you will fall off of your paddleboard at some point!
The amount of weight a paddle board can support is genrally determined by it’s size – the bigger the board, the more weight it will support.
The average 10’6″ paddleboard can support approximately 110KGs
However, there are boards that can support much more, so it’s just a matter of finding the right board for your size.
Likewise, a lighter paddler might find an average 10’6″ board too cumbersome to paddle and there are smaller boards that would be more suited.
You can burn twice as much calories as walking with paddleboarding.
On average, you might burn anywhere from 300 to 400 calories based on a light, recreational paddle.
On a more vigorous paddle, such as a cross-training SUP workout incorporating yoga or something really rigorous like SUP racing, you could expect to burn over 750-to-1,000 calories!
An incredibly easy water sport to learn, SUP can be picked up quite quickly, with many becoming expert paddle boarders in no time at all.
No matter your age or fitness level, paddleboarding is accessible to all.
With the help of our experienced instructors the basics can be learned with one 90 minute lesson.
Wonderful service, great place and really friendly! Thoroughly recommend!
We had a fantastic morning on the river, the sun was shining and Andy was very helpful in his advice of where we could get to in the time we’d booked. All equipment and facilities great too, very handy to have lockers to leave some bags behind. Would definitely recommend!
Had a great Kayak session with Andy. A knowledgable, friendly and interesting guy and gave me the confidence I needed to start going out on my own kayak reguarly.
