We had a fantastic morning on the river, the sun was shining and Andy was very helpful in his advice of where we could get to in the time we’d booked. All equipment and facilities great too, very handy to have lockers to leave some bags behind. Would definitely recommend!
Had a great Kayak session with Andy. A knowledgable, friendly and interesting guy and gave me the confidence I needed to start going out on my own kayak reguarly.

Enjoy a private kayaking session on the calm, non-tidal River Thames in Surrey with your family, friends, or partner. This 90-minute lesson offers tailored guidance from an experienced instructor and allows your group of 2–10 people to learn and explore together without sharing the session with others. The quiet river and private pontoon launch make it ideal for building confidence and enjoying the surroundings.
Sessions begin with a brief land-based overview of the equipment, safety guidance, and essential paddling techniques. Participants then head onto the river, practising manoeuvres in calm waters with instruction tailored to the group’s ability.
While paddling, the instructor provides guidance and support, allowing you to explore islands, bridges, and wildlife along the way. The focus is on learning at your own pace while enjoying the river and your group’s company.
Lessons launch from a private pontoon on the River Thames in West Molesey, Surrey. This quiet, non-tidal section of river is ideal for small groups, with minimal current and scenic surroundings including riverside paths, islands, and local wildlife.
Paddlers are guided on river etiquette and safety to ensure a smooth and enjoyable session. Nearby facilities include free car parking, bike storage, lockers, and restrooms for convenience before and after your lesson.
The person booking must be aged 18 or over, with all participants aged 11 or above. No prior kayaking experience is necessary, and the instructor provides all guidance and safety equipment.
Participants should wear layered, quick-drying clothing suitable for the weather and bring a change of clothes, as cotton and denim become heavy when wet. All provided equipment, including kayaks, paddles, buoyancy aids, and waterproof storage, ensures a safe and enjoyable experience.
The lesson is led by an experienced local instructor with extensive knowledge of the River Thames. Personal attention in small groups allows each participant to develop skills and confidence in a supportive environment.
As Paddle UK Delivery Partners and BSUPA members, the team maintains high safety and professional standards. With expert guidance, high-quality equipment, and a focus on enjoyment, every private session is safe, engaging, and memorable.
No, our Private Group Lesson is suitable for all skill levels, including beginners.
We provide all the necessary equipment, but you're welcome to bring your own kayak if you prefer.
We recommend wearing quick-drying sportswear and avoiding cotton or denim clothing. Don't forget to bring a change of clothes in case you get wet.
Kayaks are mostly considered safe to use and are not easy to tip over. The recreational and touring kayaks we use here are extremely stable.
However, that does not mean that they can’t capsize! But it will really depend on the type of boat, the conditions, your experience and the type of water you are planning on paddling in.
Learning to swim is a fantastic investment of your time! It is an excellent, very low-impact sport, easy to access and will give you confidence in and on the water. It may even safe your life!
You can use a kayak, but as there is a chance of you falling into the water you should wear a life vest and always paddle with someone.
We are based on the towpath in West Molesey. It’s an easy place to walk and cycle to and we encourage all our customers to do that if possible – we have plenty of space for bike storage.
If you are driving, the nearest free public parking is at Hurst Park.
