Gain confidence on the water with a one-on-one kayaking lesson tailored to beginners. Over 90 minutes, an experienced instructor will guide you through fundamental skills at your own pace, helping you feel capable and safe while exploring a calm stretch of the non-tidal River Thames in Surrey. This personalised session is ideal for anyone wanting focused instruction without the distractions of a larger group.
The lesson begins with a land-based introduction covering kayak basics, safety, and local river conditions. This ensures you feel prepared before heading onto the water.
Once afloat, your instructor will guide you through essential paddling techniques, including forward strokes, turning, and capsize recovery. The session also highlights safe navigation, optimal routes, and quiet spots along the river to enjoy the scenery while practising your new skills.
Launch takes place from a private pontoon on the non-tidal River Thames in West Molesey, Surrey. The calm waters and minimal current make this section ideal for beginners, with plenty of space to practise skills safely.

Learning to swim is a fantastic investment of your time! It is an excellent, very low-impact sport, easy to access and will give you confidence in and on the water. It may even safe your life!
You can use a kayak, but as there is a chance of you falling into the water you should wear a life vest and always paddle with someone.
Kayaks are mostly considered safe to use and are not easy to tip over. The recreational and touring kayaks we use here are extremely stable.
However, that does not mean that they can’t capsize! But it will really depend on the type of boat, the conditions, your experience and the type of water you are planning on paddling in.
Wonderful service, great place and really friendly! Thoroughly recommend!
We had a fantastic morning on the river, the sun was shining and Andy was very helpful in his advice of where we could get to in the time we’d booked. All equipment and facilities great too, very handy to have lockers to leave some bags behind. Would definitely recommend!
