This is a practical and hands-on course that covers advanced navigation, boat handling, and managing long passages. You’ll spend time sailing by day and night, working through real scenarios to increase your confidence and knowledge. Throughout the week, you'll cover everything from advanced pilotage and meteorology to emergency situations and night cruising. Expect to take the helm frequently, with expert guidance from RYA instructors. The course is designed to be practical and gives you plenty of opportunities to hone your skills on the water.
The locations you’ll visit along the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada are perfect for this type of training, with the opportunity to stop at beautiful ports such as Sitges and Blanes, or anchor off Tossa de Mar. Each day includes both classroom theory and practical time on the water. The hands-on approach will help you feel comfortable and confident in handling a boat on longer voyages, while also providing valuable knowledge for planning your own sailing adventures in the future.
The course takes place off the beautiful Barcelona coastline, with sailing opportunities that range from the Costa Brava to the Costa Dorada. These locations are known for their good winds and sunshine, perfect conditions for gaining more sailing experience.
Ports like Sitges, Blanes, and Tossa de Mar will be explored during the course, offering both practical training and the chance to see the beautiful coast up close.
Accommodation is provided onboard, offering comfort and convenience during the course. You'll have access to showers at the marina and onboard, ensuring you stay fresh throughout the week.
Meals are provided, with breakfast and lunch served onboard, making the experience seamless and enjoyable.
Participants should have the Dayskipper qualification or an equivalent level of experience before starting this course. In addition, completion of the Coastal Skipper theory course is required. This ensures that all participants have the necessary foundation to tackle the more advanced skills covered in the course.
The course is designed for those with a strong base of sailing knowledge and a keen interest in advancing their skills.

The instructors are all English-speaking, ensuring clear communication and guidance throughout the course. Barcelona's coastline offers ideal conditions for sailing, with reliable winds and a mix of coastal locations to visit.
We also ensure small course sizes, with a maximum of five participants per group, allowing for plenty of individual attention and hands-on training. The boats used for the course are well-maintained, comfortable, and perfect for both training and exploring, giving you the best possible start on your sailing adventure.
The minimum age for this course is 17 years old.
There is no upper age limit, but participants should have a good level of physical fitness and sailing experience to ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water.
Yes, you should have the Dayskipper qualification or equivalent sailing experience before attending the course.
You must also have completed the Coastal Skipper theory course to ensure you have the foundational knowledge required for this advanced course.
The fee covers the full 5-day course, including accommodation onboard the boat, breakfast and lunch each day, RYA-certified instruction, and your International Skippering License upon completion.
The course fee does not cover dinner at the ports you visit, Euros for dining at the ports, travel expenses to and from Barcelona, or insurance.
You may also need to pay a small fee to obtain the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) if required.
Yes, upon receiving your International Skippering License, you will be able to hire a boat up to 24 metres in length.
If you plan to sail in Europe, you’ll need to obtain the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), which requires a small £52 application fee directly payable to the RYA.
The training will take place on high-quality, well-maintained boats that are ideal for both learning and exploring.
These boats are selected for their performance, comfort, and stability, providing you with the best experience possible during your training.
