This short High Atlas adventure is built for travellers who want a real summit without a long expedition. After an early transfer from Marrakech to Imlil, you meet your guide and mule team and climb through villages and valleys toward the Toubkal Refuge. The next morning starts before dawn for the push to 4,167 metres, then a long descent back to Imlil and a late-afternoon return to the city.
Expect full mountain days, changing scenery from walnut groves to rocky alpine slopes, and a shared refuge night that sets you up for the summit. The pace is purposeful but guided, with time to rest, hydrate and take in the views when the trail allows.
Local mountain guides know these trails through every season and manage the day around weather, group pace and safe summit timing. Mule support keeps your walk focused on the path rather than heavy bags, while meals and refuge logistics are organised so you can concentrate on the climb.
The weekend format is designed to feel complete: city pickup, a genuine high overnight, a proper summit attempt and a return to Marrakech the same trip. Support stays practical and personal from the first meet-up to the final drop-off.
An early transfer takes you from Marrakech to Imlil at about 1,740 metres, the gateway village for High Atlas treks. The drive takes roughly 1.5 hours as the city gives way to foothills and mountain villages.
On arrival you meet your guide and mule team, check kit and pack the bags that will travel on the mules. After a short briefing you set off into the valley with a lighter daypack, leaving the busier streets of Marrakech behind.
The path leads through Aroumd and on toward Sidi Chamharouch, with terraced fields, stone houses and rising ridges around you. After lunch the trail grows more alpine as you climb toward the refuge at 3,207 metres.
Settle in, eat a warm dinner and rest for the early summit start. Walking time for the approach is typically 5 to 6 hours in total from Imlil. Meals included: lunch and dinner. Overnight at the mountain refuge.
Summit day begins before sunrise. With head torches and warm layers you climb steep rocky ground toward the high ridge as light spreads across the Atlas. Reaching 4,167 metres brings wide views south toward the Sahara and west toward distant coastal haze on clear days.
After photos and a short celebration you descend to the refuge for breakfast, then continue down to Imlil. Your driver meets you for the transfer back to Marrakech, usually arriving by late afternoon. Walking time is typically 9 to 10 hours including summit and descent. Meals included: breakfast and lunch.
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Many riads do not have direct car access, so the driver parks nearby and meets you at a convenient point. Same-day pickup from Marrakech Menara Airport can be arranged when your arrival coincides with the trek start.
At the end of the trek you are dropped at the nearest accessible point to your hotel or riad. If needed, the driver can coordinate with your accommodation so someone is ready to meet you.
Most of these items can be rented in Imlil if needed.
You are picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Many riads are on pedestrian streets, so the driver parks nearby and walks in to meet you.
At the end of day two you are dropped at the nearest accessible point to your hotel or riad. Same-day Menara Airport pickup can be arranged when your flight timing matches the tour start.
You should be comfortable walking steep mountain trails for several hours with a daypack. Summit day is long, with a large elevation gain before a sustained descent.
Previous hiking experience helps, especially on rocky ground. If you are unsure, the team can advise before you book based on recent walking experience.
Night one is at the Toubkal Refuge near 3,207 metres. Expect shared mountain-refuge facilities rather than a hotel room.

All meals on the hike are included: lunch and dinner on day one, then breakfast and lunch on day two.
Dietary needs and allergies should be shared when you book so the cook can plan accordingly. Soft drinks and alcohol are not included.
Yes. Mules and muleteers carry main luggage between Imlil and the refuge so you walk with a lighter daypack for the full approach.
Keep water, spare layers, snacks, camera and any medication in the bag you carry yourself, as you will not have access to the mule loads until you reach the overnight stop.
Sturdy walking boots, warm layers, waterproofs, a 3 to 4 season sleeping bag in winter (lighter bag in summer), water bottle or hydration pack, sunglasses, sunscreen, head torch and a small first aid kit.
Much of this can be rented from the equipment shop in Imlil if you prefer not to travel with full mountain kit.
It runs year round and can depart on dates that suit your group, subject to availability and mountain conditions.
Winter often means snow or ice on the upper mountain, so expect colder nights and possible need for crampons. The team will advise on seasonal kit when you confirm.
Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended, covering hiking at altitude and mountain rescue where possible.
Check that your policy covers activities up to around 4,200 metres and walking on steep rocky terrain.
Yes. Solo travellers, couples, families and larger groups can be arranged. Pricing follows the group-size tiers shown on the listing.
Private departures are available on request when you want a dedicated guide and your own schedule.
If severe weather or unsafe mountain conditions develop, the team may modify or cancel the itinerary for safety.
In those cases you will be offered an alternative date, an alternative itinerary, or a refund where applicable. The team will be in touch as soon as decisions are clear.
Children from about 6 to 7 years can join when accompanied by a responsible adult and physically able for long mountain days. The listing minimum age is 7.
In harder winter conditions a higher age may be wiser. Share your child's hiking experience when you enquire so the team can advise honestly.
