South-west of the Kathmandu bowl, this two-day walk leads from Thankot into Chitlang, then down to a boat on Indrasarovar. We'll collect you at 8:00, spend about four hours on the trail to the pear garden and temples, sleep at a village resort, then walk three hours down to the lake for lunch at Markhu. The minimum age is 13.
We'll collect you at 8:00 from your Kathmandu hotel and drive to Thankot, about 13 kilometres, where the walk begins. The hike to Chitlang is about four hours. Lunch is in the village, then you'll visit the pear garden, Bhairav temple, Ashok Chaitya, Shivalaya, and Satdhara.

Before the highway reached the plains, Chitlang was the foot route toward India, about 22 kilometres south-west of Kathmandu in Makwanpur. Temples, carved rest houses, and stone taps sit among the fields and a garden of more than a thousand pear trees.
Indrasarovar, also called Kulekhani, is a large reservoir below the village. Markhu is the lakeside stop for lunch and the start of the two-hour drive home, so day two ends at your hotel rather than on a local bus.
You do not need previous trekking experience. You should be happy walking about four hours on day one and three hours downhill on day two, then sitting in a small lake boat.
The minimum age is 13. Bring sturdy shoes and a warm layer for the evening. A hiking stick helps on the descent to the lake. Tell us about any medical needs before you come.
The vehicle waits with our Lazimpat driver at Markhu so day two ends with a two-hour drive home, not a hunt for a bus. English-speaking guides from that Kathmandu office stay with you from the 8:00 pickup through the resort night and the boat.
Permits, the village bed, and the listed meals are arranged before you leave the city. The same team has been running short walks out of Lazimpat for more than two decades.

About the centre
Kathmandu
We'll take you into the Himalaya from our base in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, with guides who have been running treks, day hikes, and mountain flights from this valley for more than two decades. You'll find short walks on the rim of the city, multi-day lodge treks toward Annapurna and Everest, and days on the water or in the air around Pokhara.
We'll handle permits, lodge nights, and hotel pickup inside Kathmandu so you can focus on the trail. You'll travel with English-speaking guides, and the kit you need for the activity is included. We're members of the main Nepal and international travel associations, and part of every trip supports community and conservation work in the hills.
