A quieter Annapurna ridge takes nine days from Kathmandu to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 metres and back, with lodge nights at Forest Camp and High Camp (3,580 m). Tourist buses cover Kathmandu to Pokhara both ways (about six hours each). Groups stay between 1 and 15 people from age 12.
A representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and takes you to a Kathmandu hotel. The next day you'll take the tourist bus to Pokhara, about six hours, and check into a hotel by the lake. Then you'll drive about an hour to Kande and walk via Australian Camp to Pritam Deurali for the first lodge night.
The following days climb through forest and villages to Forest Camp, then about five hours up to High Camp at 3,580 metres. From there you'll walk to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 metres. The high morning looks at the south face of Mardi Himal, the Annapurna wall, and Machhapuchhare, then you descend to Low Camp.
You'll walk down to Sidding, drive back to Pokhara, and take the tourist bus home to Kathmandu. Lodge nights run on full board as listed. Hotel days include breakfast. Lunch on the bus days is your own. High Camp is cold after sunset, so bring a warm layer.
Mardi Himal Base Camp sits at 4,500 metres on an open ridge above High Camp, with the south face of Mardi Himal, the Annapurna wall, and Machhapuchhare in view. The lower path runs through alpine forest and Gurung village land above Kande and Australian Camp.
Pokhara is the lakeside hotel city at each end of the walking days. Kathmandu is where you start and finish, at Tribhuvan International Airport unless you are already in a city hotel. High Camp at 3,580 metres is cold after sunset.
Forest days of about five hours should feel comfortable, then a steeper pull to High Camp and on to 4,500 metres. Previous high-altitude trekking is not required.
The minimum age is 12. Bring a passport and broken-in boots. Tell us about any heart or lung condition before you come. Nights at High Camp are cold, so pack a warm jacket for the ridge.
Nine-day pace still needs bus seats, Kande and Sidding transfers, and lodge beds at Deurali, Forest Camp, High Camp, and Low Camp booked before you leave Kathmandu. An English-speaking guide stays from the airport through 4,500 metres, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the lodge days are arranged with those teahouses.
Groups stay at 15 or fewer so the forest path to High Camp does not turn into a queue. The same Kathmandu team will hold the base-camp morning if the ridge is unsafe, rather than pushing a 4,500-metre day in poor weather.
