Two quiet days take you out of Kathmandu at 8:00, past Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, and into Balthali for a resort night and a campfire. We'll drive about an hour and a half to Namobuddha, walk about three and a half hours through rice terraces, then follow a dirt road to Panauti for lunch before the drive home. Ages 5 and up join this two-day hike.

Namobuddha is a pilgrimage village around Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, remembered as the place where a prince offered his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. Both stay close enough to Kathmandu that the walking days never leave the valley rim for long.
You do not need previous trekking experience. You should be happy walking for several hours on dirt paths and a dirt road, with a night away from the city. Day one covers about three and a half hours on foot.
The minimum age is 5. Bring a passport, sturdy shoes, and clothes that cover shoulders and knees for the monastery. Younger walkers should be used to a full day on their feet.

Permits and the listed meals sit with that same Kathmandu team, who have been running valley walks for more than two decades. Pickup is timed so the walking day is not spent in traffic, and groups stay at 15 or fewer.
