Certification
AIDA Monofin Freediver teaches the dolphin kick and body undulation needed to move efficiently on a single blade in confined water to five metres maximum depth. You need AIDA 1 or AIDA 2 pool certification, or a crossover evaluation if your prior training is with SSI or PADI via Basic Freediver or Level 1 Freediver pathways. Monofin is not a depth chase course. It is technique surgery on how you transmit power through hips and core instead of thrashing bifins.
Expect at least two days with minimum four confined water sessions plus classroom time of at least two hours covering monofin design, fit, care, transport and how disciplines differ from bifins. Dry training and physiology for monofin freediving sit alongside in-water drills until the kick feels connected rather than splashing. A seventy-five percent theory pass is required. Your first sessions often look clumsy on video review until something quietly clicks. That is normal.
Many students take Monofin after AIDA 2 when bifin dynamic apnea is stable. Leave a comment when you book about monofin hire sizes, pool lane access and whether the centre teaches fiberglass versus rubber blades for beginners.
AIDA Monofin Freediver is assessed through theory exam and continuous in-water evaluation in confined water.

Different, not automatically harder. Poor technique wastes energy fast and monofin highlights core and hip weaknesses bifins hide.
Expect awkward first sessions. Video review and patient coaching fix most kick problems over two days.
