Welcome to our Ocean Confidence Course (OCC), where we provide tailored training to enhance your confidence and performance in the ocean. Whether you're a surfer, paddleboarder, or recreational water user, our course is designed to address your specific concerns and help you overcome barriers.
Our OCC is structured to provide a comprehensive and personalised experience. During the sessions, you'll venture on a journey of self-discovery and skill development under the guidance of our experienced trainer, Dom. The course typically unfolds in two detailed phases:
In the first phase, we conduct a personalised assessment of your concerns and goals, laying the foundation for a tailored learning path. Through in-depth discussions and practical exercises, we identify both internal and external triggers affecting your confidence in the water. This phase is crucial for understanding your unique challenges and designing an effective fear-extinguishing plan.
In the second phase, we immerse you in real-world scenarios to build practical skills and confidence in the ocean environment. Guided by Dom's expertise, you'll delve into topics such as understanding wipeouts, predicting natural forces, mastering water entry and exit techniques, and acquiring self-rescue skills. Each session is carefully crafted to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can overcome challenges and unlock your full potential in the water.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Newquay’s Fistral Beach, our surf sessions take place on gently sloping shores with standing-depth water, ideal for learning. We are conveniently located by the Headland Hotel.
No prior experience necessary. The course is suitable for individuals of all levels, from beginners to advanced water users.
Our personalised approach ensures that each participant receives individualised attention and support throughout their journey. Our experienced trainer, Dom, brings over a decade of expertise in ocean confidence training, guaranteeing a high-quality learning experience.
Our comprehensive curriculum covers a wide range of topics, from understanding ocean dynamics to mastering essential skills, providing participants with a well-rounded education. Safety is paramount at our centre, with trained lifeguards accompanying participants and creating a safe learning environment.
As lifelong surfers and ocean enthusiasts, we are deeply passionate about sharing our love for the sea and helping others build confidence and skills to enjoy it to the fullest.
No, the OCC is available to anyone regardless of their experience or ability in the ocean.
This training is all about overcoming barriers that are unique to you. Whether you're a seasoned surfer, a beginner paddleboarder, or someone who simply loves being by the sea, our course is tailored to your individual needs and goals.
No specific fitness requirements are necessary to participate. Each session is customised to suit your abilities and goals, ensuring that you can progress at your own pace.
However, participants should be medically safe to engage in physical activity.
We completely understand your concerns about safety. Rest assured that our primary goal is to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.
The course is designed to gradually expose you to challenges in a controlled manner, ensuring that you feel empowered to overcome them. By providing staged, gradual exposure to potential triggers, we help you retrain your brain to view challenges as opportunities for growth, rather than sources of fear.
The safety of our participants is of utmost importance to us. Our course is conducted in conditions similar in risk to a standard surf lesson, with trained lifeguards present at all times.
We ensure that participants are matched with appropriate conditions based on their skill level and comfort level in the water.
Additionally, our experienced trainer, Dom, is well-versed in safety protocols and emergency procedures, providing further reassurance to participants.
In the event of inclement weather or unsafe sea conditions, the safety of our participants is our top priority. If we determine that it is unsafe to conduct the Ocean Confidence Course as scheduled, we will work with you to reschedule your session for a later date.
Your safety and satisfaction are our primary concerns, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs and preferences.
Fantastic experience. Dom was very welcoming and friendly and clearly exceedingly knowledgeable. The day was tailored to the conditions and we visited multiple sites in different areas of Cornwall to ensure that I was given the best experience. All equipment was high end and well maintained. This was the start…
An epic day being guided by Dom around some of Cornwall's best spearfishing spots. He was able to provide top-spec equipment and expert tuition. Patient and engaging. He provided an experience I would never have pushed to without his guidance. Highly recommended!
