Location: Agafay Desert (~45–60 mins southwest of central Marrakech).
Included: Hotel/riad pickup & drop-off, professional camel handler, 1 or 2-hour camel ride, helmet, and traditional mint tea.
A camel trek across the stone hills of Agafay is a straightforward way to leave the city for a few hours. We collect you from your hotel or riad, pair you with a local handler and fit a helmet before you set off. Choose a one or two hour ride, then sit down for mint tea before the return to Marrakech.
Once we collect you in Marrakech, you transfer towards Agafay, meet your camel handler, fit a helmet and settle into a steady desert pace. The route crosses rocky slopes and open basins, with photo pauses along the way. Your handler keeps things calm for first-timers and mixed groups.
When the ride ends you stop for mint tea or a light refreshment before the return transfer to your accommodation. Door-to-door timing is typically about three hours for the one-hour ride, or around four hours for the two-hour ride. Full step-by-step timing sits in the itinerary below.
Experience Level: Beginner-friendly (no prior camel riding experience required).
Safety Gear: Helmets are fitted and required for all riders.
Physical Fit: Comfortable sitting on a moving animal and following basic handler instructions.
Footwear & Attire: Closed-toe shoes recommended; long pants or jeans help prevent saddle chafing.
We're based in Marrakech and look after you from hotel pickup to drop-off, with English-speaking guides and handlers who know Agafay well. Local knowledge shows up in the briefing, the pace of the trek and a return that does not leave you arranging desert transport yourself.
Helmets, a professional camel handler and a mint tea stop are built into a one or two hour ride, so the outing stays practical as well as scenic. You get enough time on camelback to enjoy the stone hills and, on clear days, the High Atlas, then a clear transfer back to the city.
Your driver collects you from your Marrakech hotel or riad and heads southwest toward Agafay. City streets give way to open countryside as the stone desert hills come into view.
On arrival you meet your camel handler, receive a short safety briefing and fit a helmet before mounting for the chosen ride length.
The camel trek follows quiet desert tracks across rocky slopes and wide basins. Your handler keeps a steady, beginner-friendly pace with pauses for photos and to take in High Atlas views on clear days.
Whether you chose one or two hours on camelback, the rhythm stays calm and scenic rather than rushed, with time to enjoy the silence and the changing light across the hills.
After dismounting you stop for mint tea or a light refreshment, with a moment to dust off and talk through the highlights of the trek.
You then transfer back to Marrakech for drop-off near your hotel or riad, usually within the overall door-to-door window for your selected ride length.
You are collected from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at an agreed time. Many riads sit on pedestrian lanes, so the driver may park nearby and meet you on foot before the transfer out to Agafay.
At the end of the activity you are dropped at the nearest accessible point to your accommodation. Share your hotel or riad name and a mobile number when you enquire so pickup logistics stay simple.
