Key Details

Duration: 1.5 hours
Age: 9+
Group size: Maximum 12 people
Meeting point: We bring the equipment to you

What to Expect

You’ll begin with a brief on-land safety and equipment demonstration. Your instructor will ensure you’re comfortable with the buoyancy aid, paddle, and other gear before hitting the water. A 10-minute introduction will cover the basics, followed by time spent on the water learning how to balance, paddle, and move through the water safely.

Once you’re comfortable on the board, you’ll be guided on a short tour of the local area, practising skills and enjoying the surroundings. This relaxed session gives you the chance to work on your technique or simply enjoy a fun time out on the water.

Location

This is a mobile service, so we bring the equipment and instructors to your chosen location. Whether you want to try paddleboarding at a nearby lake, river, or any suitable water spot, we can set up wherever is most convenient for you.

Just let us know your location, and we’ll handle the rest!

Prerequisites

Participants should be comfortable with the idea of falling into water, as this is a natural part of paddleboarding. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but a basic level of comfort in the water is required.

Additionally, you should be able to swim 50 meters unaided and must wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Any medical conditions or injuries must be disclosed before participation.

About Your Guides

Nick, a BSUPA-qualified Level 2 coach, discovered paddleboarding in 2014 and immediately fell in love with the sport. He is passionate about making paddleboarding accessible to everyone, no matter their age or ability, and takes part in races whenever possible. His love for the sport is infectious, and he strives to ensure each session is enjoyable for all participants.

Claire, also BSUPA-qualified, started paddleboarding just a couple of years ago and quickly progressed to racing. She is now a highly skilled instructor and part of the Go With The Flo racing team. Claire’s enthusiasm for paddleboarding is evident in her lessons, making them fun and motivating for all participants.

FAQs:

What should I wear for stand-up paddleboarding?

When it's warm, wear whatever you feel comfortable in, like shorts and a t-shirt or other activewear. If you have neoprene or a wetsuit, that's ideal, but we can provide one if needed—just let us know ahead of time. We recommend wearing footwear that you don’t mind getting wet, such as wet shoes, flip-flops, or old trainers.

Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, insect repellent if you have it, a towel, and a change of clothes for your journey home (though hopefully, you won’t need them!).

Is stand-up paddleboarding safe?

Falling in can be part of the fun, but your safety is our top priority. Everyone will be given a flotation device, and all boards are equipped with a leash.

We’re trained in first aid to handle any situation. You can wear waterproof footwear or bring your own, such as flip-flops or old trainers, during the session. Please make sure any cuts on your feet or legs are covered with plasters before you get started.

Do I need to be able to swim to try stand-up paddleboarding?

Yes, we require you to be able to swim before taking part in a paddleboarding session. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but you should feel comfortable falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

You'll also need a certain level of flexibility and the ability to transition from kneeling to standing on the board.

What kind of boards do you use?

We use high-quality, durable stand-up paddleboards designed for both beginners and more experienced paddlers. They are lightweight and stable, allowing for a smoother experience.

If you have specific preferences, feel free to discuss them with your instructor, and we can adjust accordingly to your needs.

What happens if the weather isn’t great on the day of the session?

We monitor the weather closely to ensure safe conditions for paddleboarding. If the weather conditions are unsafe or unfavourable, we may reschedule your session.

If it's just light rain or mild conditions, the session may still go ahead, but we always prioritise your safety and enjoyment. You’ll be notified in advance if any changes are made due to weather.

How long will the session last?

The session will last approximately 1.5 hours, which includes a safety briefing, instruction, and time on the water. After the initial safety introduction, you’ll have time to get used to the board, practice your paddling technique, and enjoy a short guided tour.

This duration ensures everyone gets the most out of the session while keeping it fun and engaging.
