What to Expect

Prerequisites

Participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres unaided. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but you should feel comfortable with the idea of falling into the water while wearing a buoyancy aid.

If you're under 18, a paying adult must accompany you. It is important to disclose any medical conditions or injuries prior to the session. Please ensure you arrive 15 minutes early to complete the necessary registration and preparation before the session starts.

Claire is a BSUPA-qualified coach who has quickly progressed from beginner to competitor. She brings her enthusiasm for paddleboarding to every session, making it fun and engaging for participants.

Anna combines her personal training background with her love of paddleboarding. As a British Canoeing SUP coach, she offers expert guidance and a supportive learning environment.

James, a dragon boater with Henley Dragons, joined the team in 2022. He brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to every session, making him a valuable instructor for paddlers of all levels.

What should I wear for stand-up paddleboarding?

When it's warm, wear whatever you feel comfortable in, like shorts and a t-shirt or other activewear. If you have neoprene or a wetsuit, that's ideal, but we can provide one if needed—just let us know ahead of time. We recommend wearing footwear that you don’t mind getting wet, such as wet shoes, flip-flops, or old trainers.

Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, insect repellent if you have it, a towel, and a change of clothes for your journey home (though hopefully, you won’t need them!). We can keep your car keys safe, but please leave other valuables in your car.

Is stand-up paddleboarding safe?

Falling in can be part of the fun, but your safety is our top priority. Everyone will be given a flotation device, and all boards are equipped with a leash.

We’re trained in first aid to handle any situation. You can wear waterproof footwear or bring your own, such as flip-flops or old trainers, during the session. Please make sure any cuts on your feet or legs are covered with plasters before you get started.
