The Wing Surf Foil Intermediate Clinic - First Flights is designed to prepare you for the exciting moment of getting your first flights on the foil. This clinic builds on the skills you've learned in the earlier courses and helps boost your confidence with managing equipment and controlling your wing and board. While we aim to get out on the sea if conditions are ideal, the session typically takes place in the calm waters of Hove Lagoon, ensuring a safe and controlled environment. The course will also prepare you for take-away hire, allowing you to practise at other venues.
During the Wing Surf Foil Intermediate Clinic - First Flights, you’ll focus on refining your wing and board control, preparing for foiling in real-world conditions.
Here's what you can expect:
The goal of this clinic is to progress your wingsurfing skills, preparing you for your first flights and giving you the confidence to manage your equipment independently. This clinic will ensure you’re ready for take-away hire and further foiling progression.
The clinic takes place at Hove Lagoon, a Victorian boating lake that provides ideal conditions for wingsurfing and foiling. Its waist-deep waters make it easy to reset and try again as you practise. Once you're ready, we can transition your learning to the nearby sea for more advanced conditions.
This course is aimed at intermediate riders who have completed the WingSurf Improvers Course. You should already have good wing and board control before attending this clinic. This session is not suitable for complete beginners.
At Hove Lagoon, we offer the perfect learning environment for wing foiling progression. The calm, shallow waters of the lagoon provide a safe and controlled space for mastering the basics, while the proximity to the sea allows for real-world experience when you're ready. Our RYA-certified instructors have extensive experience in teaching foiling, ensuring that you receive top-quality coaching in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Additionally, Hove Lagoon is part of a public park, offering a variety of amenities, including a licensed café, a kids’ play area, and a skate park. This makes it a great place for friends and family to enjoy while you’re on the water.

What not to bring:
This clinic is designed for intermediate riders who have already completed the WingSurf Improvers Course. You should have good control of both the wing and the board before joining this session. It’s not suitable for complete beginners.
The clinic focuses on preparing you for your first flights on the foil. You’ll learn:
No, we provide all necessary equipment, including the wing, foil, board, wetsuit, helmet, and impact vest. You just need to bring your swimwear to wear under the wetsuit and a towel for after the session.
Foiling can be physically demanding, especially as you work on balance and control. Participants should be in reasonably good physical condition. If you have any concerns about your fitness level, feel free to contact us for advice before booking.
To ensure personalised attention, the group size is limited to 4 participants per session. This allows our instructors to focus on helping each rider refine their skills and gain confidence.
The clinic is designed to run in most weather conditions, but if the wind is too strong or too light for safe foiling, we may reschedule. If the session is cancelled due to weather, we will offer an alternative date at no extra cost.
The water in Hove Lagoon is regularly tested by Brighton and Hove City Council to ensure it meets all health and safety standards. While natural algae may appear occasionally, it is harmless and managed effectively to keep the water clean. The lagoon is topped up with fresh seawater regularly.
Foiling can be risky without proper training, but with the guidance of our experienced instructors, you’ll learn how to stay safe. You’ll be provided with helmets and impact vests, and all equipment will be carefully explained to you. However, as with any extreme sport, expect a few bumps and bruises as part of the learning process.
