Curiosity about abseiling often starts with nerves, and this short indoor session is designed to turn that into confidence. In one focused hour, you’ll learn how abseiling works and complete several controlled descents with expert guidance throughout. It’s an ideal first step for anyone wanting a safe, encouraging introduction.
The session opens with a clear safety briefing, introducing the ropes, harness, and abseil system so you understand exactly how everything works. After being fitted with your equipment, you’ll practise body position and rope control at ground level before moving onto your first descent.
As confidence builds, you’ll complete several abseils down the purpose-built indoor wall, typically between three and five depending on the group’s pace. Instructors stay close by, offering calm guidance and practical tips to help you take more control with each descent.
By the end of the hour, most people find they’re leaning back with confidence, controlling their speed smoothly, and enjoying the process. The controlled indoor environment allows you to focus purely on technique without the pressures of height or weather.
The experience takes place at an indoor climbing and abseiling facility located within Brighton Marina. The venue is purpose-built for training, providing a consistent, sheltered environment that works well for first-time abseilers.
Easy to reach and close to local amenities, the marina setting makes this a convenient option for a short adventure without committing to a full day. The indoor wall stands at approximately 15ft, offering the right balance of challenge and reassurance for beginners.
No previous experience is required, making this suitable for complete beginners or those preparing for a future charity abseil. A basic level of mobility is needed, as access involves climbing some steep stairs to reach the abseil platform.
Comfortable clothing that allows free movement is recommended, along with trainers. Denim should be avoided as it restricts movement when wearing a harness. All technical equipment is provided on the day.
Years of delivering outdoor and indoor adventure sessions have shaped a teaching style that prioritises clear instruction and encouragement. Instructors are highly qualified and known for creating an atmosphere where people feel supported from their first step to their final descent.
Experience gained through specialist safety work in demanding environments feeds directly into how sessions are run. This background ensures strong safety standards, calm supervision, and a relaxed approach that helps newcomers feel at ease quickly.
