Combine surfing and kayaking on this guided waveski kayaking experience around the Newquay coastline. Using specialist sit-on-top waveskis designed for surf conditions, participants learn how to paddle, control and ride waves while building confidence within the ocean alongside experienced instructors.
Sessions begin at the harbour base with introductions, safety briefings and equipment setup before heading to the beach for a warm-up and land-based instruction. Instructors explain paddling techniques, waveski positioning and the basics of controlling the craft both on flat water and within moving surf conditions before launching into the ocean.
Once on the water, participants start developing paddling confidence and steering control while learning how to position themselves for incoming waves. As confidence builds, instructors introduce wave riding techniques, timing and surf zone awareness, helping participants progress from basic paddling into catching and riding waves. Coaching is adapted to the conditions and ability level of the group, making the session suitable for both complete beginners and returning paddlers.
The sit-on-top waveskis provide a stable platform for learning while still allowing plenty of speed and manoeuvrability once in the surf. Tandem options are also available for participants wanting additional support or shared sessions with an instructor. After time in the waves, the session finishes with a debrief before returning to the harbour base for showers and changing facilities.
Operating from Newquay Harbour provides access to sheltered launch areas alongside nearby beaches suitable for waveski and surf kayak training. Depending on sea conditions, instructors may use different sections of coastline to provide suitable learning environments for the session.
The surrounding coastline offers a mixture of calmer water and surf conditions, allowing participants to gradually build confidence before progressing further into wave riding.
No previous waveski or kayak surfing experience is required before joining the beginner sessions. Participants should feel comfortable around open water and capable of following instructor guidance within surf conditions.
Private 1-to-1 and 2-to-1 lessons are available for those wanting more personalised coaching or a dedicated session with a friend or family member.
Using years of kayaking, surfing and coastal coaching experience, the instructor team focuses on helping participants build confidence within the surf while keeping sessions approachable and enjoyable. Coaching is adapted to different ability levels and sea conditions, allowing complete beginners and experienced paddlers to progress at their own pace.
Mel helps guests choose the most suitable lesson format before arrival, while the wider team brings practical surf and paddling knowledge into every session. Launching directly from Newquay Harbour also gives quick access to suitable learning conditions and nearby surf beaches.
