



Circling one of South Snowdonia’s most impressive peaks, this two-day route combines long climbs, remote gravel tracks, exposed moorland and some of the best coastal and mountain views in Wales. It’s a demanding but achievable loop for riders with good fitness who enjoy a mix of terrain and like the feeling of being in a truly wild landscape. Distances remain moderate, but the elevation, gradients and off-tarmac sections give the route its Moderate–Challenging rating.
The journey links Machynlleth, the Mawddach Estuary, the foothills of Cadair Idris and the quiet lanes and woodlands of Corris. Expect variety throughout: open mountain passes, rough tracks you may choose to walk, smooth lanes, impressive viewpoints and stretches of forest that feel far removed from busy tourist areas.
This is a self-guided route, with detailed navigation, full kit provision and backup support on hand should you need it.
This circuit heads north from Machynlleth into upland terrain with expansive views, then drops to the Mawddach Estuary before climbing again toward Cadair Idris. The mix of steep gradients, bumpy tracks and high-exposure sections requires confidence and good fitness. Gravel segments are rough in places and may involve short hike-a-bike moments.

Meals are at your own expense, with recommendations provided. B&B stays include breakfast. Campers receive Firepot breakfast pouches and hot drinks to start the day. Lunch can be picked up en route or enjoyed as a packed option. Dinner is always available within reach, though campers should be ready for the hillside walk into Barmouth unless choosing a taxi.
The trip begins in Machynlleth at 10am, with kit packed into your provided dry bag and you dressed ready to ride. Setup and briefing take 1–1.5 hours. Expect to return by 3pm on Day 2. Train travellers should allow two hours before onward travel; trains connect via Shrewsbury. The start location is within walking distance of the station. Drivers can request advice on suitable parking; vehicles are left at your own risk. Non-ride items can be stored safely until your return.

With all equipment, logistics and accommodation arranged, you’re free to focus on the ride and enjoy a compact but memorable circuit around one of Wales’ most iconic peaks.
