D'Boche de Rotcha is the beach you walk to from Tarrafal on an easy coastal path that stays close to the water for much of the day. Coral sand and dark volcanic rock mark the shore. Hotel pickup from the Tarrafal area starts the morning, and the outing lasts about seven hours.
Tarrafal is a working fishing village where boats and shoreline life sit beside the first steps after hotel collection. The pace stays accessible on a path that follows the shore rather than climbing inland ridges, which is why the grade stays easy even across a long day. Along the coastal stretch there is a chance to see cetaceans if they surface. Sightings are never promised, yet the route stays close enough to the sea that it is worth keeping your eyes on the horizon.
Praia D'Boche de Rotcha is a nook of white coral sand set against dark volcanic rock that erosion has shaped into corners. Many guests like time at the water's edge, and conditions on the day decide whether entering the sea is sensible. After that pause the same coastal line leads back toward Tarrafal, still at an easy grade, so you see the shoreline from the opposite direction. Pack snacks and water, because meals are not included.
Tarrafal de Sao Nicolau is a working fishing village, with boats and shoreline life that you notice as soon as the walk begins. The coastal line toward D'Boche de Rotcha stays beside the Atlantic rather than climbing inland ridges, which is why the grade stays easy.
Praia D'Boche de Rotcha is a tucked-away beach where white coral sand sits against dark volcanic rock that erosion has cut into corners and nooks. You remain on Sao Nicolau all day, with hotel pickup from the Tarrafal area so you can start at the village without arranging a separate transfer.
Closed-toe shoes with grip help on uneven shoreline ground, even on an easy coastal route of about seven hours. Guests need to be at least 16, happy on sand and rock, and ready for sun, wind and salt air beside the water.
No scrambling experience is required, and the path is accessible. Beach rock can still be sharp or slippery, so leave the flip-flops for the sand. Tell us about mobility or heat concerns when you book so we can advise on whether a long easy coastal day is a good fit.
The last stretch back toward Tarrafal stays with your guide, so you are not left to walk an unsupported line after time at D'Boche de Rotcha. Hotel pickup is included, so you start from your stay rather than searching for the first coastal track in the village.
The day is built around an accessible route to a beach that many visitors would not find on their own. Time on the coral sand and volcanic rock comes with a guided return rather than a long unsupported walk back to Tarrafal.
The route is rated easy and accessible, so it is a coastal walk rather than a mountain climb. You should still be ready for about seven hours outdoors, including time at the beach and the return toward Tarrafal.
Guests who are happy walking on sand and uneven rock usually enjoy the day. If you want a short stroll only, this will feel long. Shoes with grip help on volcanic rock, even when the grade stays gentle.
Cetaceans are often present in these waters, and the coastal path gives you a chance to see them if they surface while you walk. We cannot promise a sighting on any given day, because wild animals move on their own schedule.
Keep a hat and patience handy, and listen when your guide pauses to scan the water. Binoculars are useful if you already own them, though they are not required. The beach at D'Boche de Rotcha remains the main destination even if the horizon stays quiet.
The beach is a place to enjoy coral sand and volcanic rock after the walk, and many guests like time at the water's edge. Conditions on the day decide whether entering the sea is sensible, and your guide will be honest if the swell looks poor.
Bring swimwear and a small towel if you hope to get in, plus water shoes if you dislike sharp rock. Swimming is not a guided snorkel session. There is no snorkel kit included on this hike.

Drop-off is not listed, so confirm how you will get back to your hotel after we return to Tarrafal. Flights and inter-island travel to your hotel are not included.
Sixteen is the minimum age for this coastal day. Parties stay between one and four people, which keeps the path uncrowded and makes it easier to stop if someone wants a photo of the rock and sand.
Solo travellers can book. A family of four can take the departure as a private-feeling walk. Younger children are not accepted, even though the grade is easy, because the day is long.
Pack walking shoes with grip, a sun hat, sunscreen, water and snacks for a seven-hour coastal day. Add swimwear and a small towel if you want time in the water at D'Boche de Rotcha, plus a light layer for wind off the Atlantic.
Meals are not included, so do not rely on a cafe at the beach. A small daypack keeps your hands free on rockier sections. Personal medication should travel with you, not in a bag left at the hotel.
The booked duration is about seven hours, covering the walk from Tarrafal, time at Praia D'Boche de Rotcha and the return. That includes easy walking rather than a short beach drop-off.
Heat and photo stops can nudge the timing. If you have an evening ferry or flight, leave a wide gap after the advertised hours. We confirm pickup on your booking so the morning start is clear.
Coastal walking is mildly affected by weather. Strong wind, heavy rain or a rough sea can make the rock sections less pleasant, and we will contact you if the day should not run.
If we cancel, you will hear from us rather than arriving in Tarrafal to find an empty meeting point.
