Spend a full day walking rainforest trails beneath Arenal Volcano and crossing the famous hanging bridges at Mistico Park, with a bilingual guide who keeps the pace comfortable for mixed groups. You move from shaded forest paths to open canopy walkways, pausing whenever wildlife or a clear view of the cone appears through the cloud.
Your day usually begins with pickup or a meeting in La Fortuna, followed by a scenic drive toward the first park entrance while your guide outlines the walking plan, safety notes for bridges, and what to watch for in the canopy. Morning hours are dedicated to ecological park trails where you interpret lava-era forest, listen for birds and monkeys, and take photo stops when Arenal shows itself above the treeline. Lunch fits into the middle of the schedule according to what you booked, giving everyone time to dry gear, refill water, and ask questions before the afternoon section.
After lunch you continue to Mistico Hanging Bridges for the one-way bridge circuit, moving steadily across elevated walkways with time built in for viewpoints and wildlife pauses without holding up other visitors. Your guide handles park entries and driving legs between sites so you are not juggling separate stops or rushing between parking areas on a busy day. You return to La Fortuna in the evening with a realistic drop-off window after the tour.
La Fortuna sits in the northern lowlands around Arenal, where farmland, geothermal valleys, and protected forest meet within a short drive of town. The ecological park trails and Mistico bridges both lie in the volcano's green belt, so weather can shift from bright sun to mist within the same hour.
Walking surfaces range from compacted forest paths to bridge stairs and open walkways, which is why we recommend sturdy shoes and a light rain layer even when the morning looks clear. Views of the cone are weather dependent, and your guide will point out the best lookout moments when clouds part during the day.
You should be comfortable walking for several hours on uneven, sometimes muddy paths and climbing bridge stairs at a moderate pace. No technical climbing skills are required, but anyone uneasy with height should take their time on open walkways and stay close to the handrails.
Children need supervision on stairs and shared paths, and we are happy to advise before you book if you are travelling with toddlers or guests who need a slower rhythm. Bring closed-toe shoes, repellent, and a daypack so you can stay comfortable from the first trailhead to the final bridge.
We are a La Fortuna-based guiding team who run these combined park days throughout the year, so we know which trail sections are busiest, where parking flows smoothly, and how to order the two parks without unnecessary backtracking. Our guides work in English and Spanish, give steady briefings before each walking block, and keep shared groups moving at a pace that still leaves room for photos and wildlife stops.
When you book through us, pickup, park coordination, and the linked entries with your booking are handled in one place instead of you piecing together transport and entries on your own. We treat safety and timing seriously on long walking days, and we stay with you from the morning briefing through to your return transfer after the final bridge section.
Allow roughly eight hours from pickup to drop-off, including driving and both park visits. Exact times follow the departure slot shown when you book.
Build a little buffer afterwards if you have dinner plans, especially in rainy season when forest walks can slow slightly.
Many rates include hotel pickup around La Fortuna. Select the pickup option when you book if you want door-to-door service.
If you self-drive to a meeting point, arrive early for parking and check-in with your guide.
Expect moderate terrain: roots, hills, and humidity typical of rainforest trails. It suits regular walkers rather than athletes only.
Bridges add stairs and exposure to height; take your time if you are uneasy on open walkways.
Guides often spot birds, insects, coatis, and sometimes sloths, but sightings are never guaranteed. Quiet mornings improve your odds.
Bring binoculars if you enjoy birding; phones work for quick photos where lighting allows.
Light rain is common and tours usually continue with ponchos and careful footing. Guides may reorder stops to shelter the group when storms build.
Only severe weather triggers cancellations or shortened routes according to park rules and safety checks.
Meal inclusions depend on the rate you select when booking. Check what is included for the option you choose to see whether lunch is bundled with transport and guiding.
Packing snacks is still wise for energy between stops, especially if you have dietary preferences the set menu may not cover.
Closed-toe shoes with grip, quick-dry clothes, and a light rain jacket are the baseline. Avoid sandals on trails and bridges.
A small daypack keeps water, repellent, and camera gear handy without slowing the group.
Families join regularly, but children need supervision on stairs, bridges, and uneven paths. Carriers work for infants on flat sections only.
Contact the team if you travel with toddlers so they can advise on pacing and equipment.
This product bundles the scheduled park entries for the guided day. You should not need separate Mistico entry unless we advise otherwise.
Stay with your guide at each park entrance for gate checks and show it when your guide collects the group at each entrance.
Pickup hotels and central meeting details appear on your booking details. Most guests start from La Fortuna accommodations within the standard pickup zone.
Share your hotel name during booking so drivers can plan an efficient route and send a realistic pickup window the night before.
