Activity Highlights:

Grab a kayak and set off along the coast whenever it suits you, with no set schedule and no instructor tagging along. Single and double kayaks are available from a launch point right on the beach in Can Pastilla, giving you the freedom to explore the bay, stop for a swim, and head back when you are ready.

📋 Key Details

Duration: 2 hours
Group Size: 1 to 10 people
Kayak Options: Single or double
Guiding: Self-guided, no instructor included

🏋 What to Expect

Once you collect your kayak and paddle, you set your own course along the shoreline. Many paddlers head towards the small islet of Sa Galera, a short distance offshore, where the water turns clear enough for snorkelling and there is a good spot to pull up and rest before turning back.

Because the hire is self-guided, you can go at whatever pace suits your group, stopping to swim, take photos, or simply drift for a while. The bay stays fairly sheltered, which makes it a comfortable option for anyone who wants time on the water without a strict itinerary to follow.

📍 Location

Can Pastilla sits along the wide sweep of Playa de Palma, a few minutes from Palma itself, with a long promenade of cafes and restaurants running behind the beach. The bay is generally calm and shallow close to shore, which suits paddlers of most abilities and makes for an easy launch straight from the sand.

Beyond the immediate beach, the coastline offers plenty to look at from the water, from smaller coves to the low rocky point where Sa Galera sits. The wider area is well served by public transport and parking, so it is straightforward to combine a session on the water with time exploring Palma or the rest of the bay.

✅ Prerequisites

No previous kayaking experience is needed to take out a single or double kayak here, though a reasonable level of comfort in open water is useful since the activity is self-guided. Swimmers of most abilities will find the conditions manageable, and the double kayak is a good option for pairing an adult with a less confident paddler.

Sun protection, a hat, and plenty of water are worth bringing along, since there is little shade once you are away from the beach. Anyone with health conditions that could be affected by sustained physical activity in the sun should check with their own doctor before booking.

⭐ Why Choose Us

Kayaks are kept in good condition and checked before every hire, so you can head out knowing the equipment will hold up for the full two hours. The launch point sits directly on the beach, meaning there is no need to carry gear far or arrange transport before getting on the water.

Choosing between a single or double kayak keeps things flexible for solo paddlers, couples, or small groups travelling together, and the relaxed self-guided format means there is no pressure to keep pace with anyone else.

FAQs:

Do I need previous kayaking experience?

No previous experience is required to hire a kayak here, since the boats are stable and easy to handle even for first timers. A short safety briefing is given before you set off, covering the basics of paddling and what to do if you capsize. The bay around Can Pastilla is generally calm, which makes it a forgiving spot to get used to a kayak for the first time. If you have never paddled before, sticking close to shore for the first few minutes before heading further out is a sensible way to build confidence.

Is a guide included with the hire?

This is a self-guided rental, so no instructor or guide accompanies you on the water. You are free to choose your own route within the bay and set your own pace for the full two hours. A briefing on handling the kayak and basic safety is given before you launch, so you leave with a clear idea of what to do. Many hirers head towards the Sa Galera islet and back, though the route is entirely up to you.

Is there a minimum age for the kayak hire?

There is no fixed minimum age for this hire, though younger children should always be paired with an adult in a double kayak rather than paddling alone. The suitability of the activity depends more on a child's comfort in open water than on age alone. Parents are best placed to judge whether their child is ready for two hours on the water, bearing in mind that the hire is self-guided and there is no instructor on hand to help mid session. A calm, confident swimmer generally manages well.

Can I hire a double kayak for myself and my child?

Yes, the double kayak is a popular choice for an adult paddling with a child, since it allows the more experienced person to help steer and set the pace. It also works well for couples or friends who would rather share a boat than paddle separately. Both single and double kayaks are available at the same launch point, so you can decide on the day which suits your group best, subject to availability at the time of booking.

What happens if the weather is unsuitable on the day?

Kayaking depends on reasonable sea conditions, so a strong onshore wind or rough water may mean the hire cannot go ahead safely. Any decision about conditions is made on the day, as forecasts can change quickly along this stretch of coast. If your booking cannot run because of the weather, get in touch as soon as possible to discuss rearranging for another time. Checking the forecast before you travel is a good idea if conditions look changeable.

What should I bring with me?

A swimsuit worn under your clothes, a towel, and sun cream are the essentials for a session on the water, since there is very little shade once you are away from the beach. Water shoes or old trainers are also worth bringing if you plan to get in and out near rocks. A reusable water bottle is a good idea too, particularly in the warmer months, along with a hat and sunglasses with a strap. Valuables can usually be left at the meeting point while you are out on the water.

How far can I paddle in the two hours?

How far you get depends entirely on your pace and how many stops you take, since the hire is self-guided rather than following a fixed route. Many paddlers reach the Sa Galera islet and back within the two hours, with time to stop for a swim along the way. If you would rather stay closer to shore and take things slowly, that works just as well. There is no requirement to reach any particular point, so the distance is really up to you and your group.

Is snorkelling included in the price?

Snorkelling gear is not included with the kayak hire, so bring your own mask if you plan to stop and look beneath the surface near Sa Galera. The water around the islet is generally clear enough to make it worthwhile on a calm day. If you do not have your own equipment, it is still possible to enjoy a swim stop without a mask, and the area around the rocks is pleasant simply for a paddle and a break from the kayak.

What is the cancellation policy?

Bookings can usually be cancelled or rearranged up to 24 hours before the start time without charge, in line with the standard policy for this activity. Cancellations made closer to the start time may not be refundable. Full terms are confirmed at the time of booking, so it is worth checking the exact wording before you pay if your plans might change. Getting in touch early is always the best approach if you need to adjust a booking.

Where exactly do I collect the kayak?

The meeting point is on Carrer dels Palangres in Can Pastilla, right by the beach, so there is no need to carry any equipment far before getting on the water. Full directions and any parking notes are confirmed when you book. Arriving a few minutes early is recommended so there is time for the safety briefing and to get fitted with a life jacket before you set off. Staff at the meeting point can point you towards nearby parking if you are driving.
