Get up on a sailboard for the first time with a private windsurfing lesson built entirely around you or your small group. Can Pastilla is known for calm, sheltered water and steady wind, making it a forgiving spot to learn the basics without the pressure of a crowded class.
The lesson starts on the beach with a run through of the equipment and how the board and sail work together, before moving into the water for hands on practice. Balance comes first, followed by sail control, so you build each skill on top of the last rather than being thrown in at the deep end.
Because the lesson is private, the instructor can adjust the pace to suit you exactly, spending longer on whichever part feels trickiest. By the end of the session most beginners are able to hold a basic sailing position for short stretches, even if perfecting turns takes a little more practice.
Can Pastilla sits along Playa de Palma, a long stretch of beach a short drive from central Palma, backed by a promenade of cafes and shops. The bay here is sheltered from the open sea, which keeps the water calmer than more exposed windsurfing spots along the coast.
Consistent thermal winds pick up through the summer months, which is part of why this stretch of coast has become a popular base for learning to windsurf. The wide, flat beach also makes it easy to carry equipment down and get set up before heading out.
No previous windsurfing experience is required, and the lesson is built for people trying it for the first time. Being a reasonably confident swimmer is helpful, since you will spend time in the water alongside the board.
A basic level of fitness makes the balance and core work involved a little easier, though the private format means the instructor can pace things around what feels comfortable. Anyone with concerns about their fitness or health should mention this when booking.
Keeping the lesson private or limited to two people means the instructor's full attention stays with you throughout, rather than splitting time across a larger group. All board, sail, and safety equipment is provided and fitted to suit your size and level.
Learning in a sheltered bay with steady wind gives beginners the best possible conditions to pick up the basics quickly, without the added challenge of choppy water or gusty, unpredictable wind.
