Spend two hours exploring the protected waters of Cala Vella on a guided snorkelling boat trip from Playa del Arenal. This experience combines coastal cruising with time in the water, focusing on shallow reefs and clear Mediterranean conditions suitable for confident swimmers.
With full equipment provided and guidance throughout, it’s a practical way to snorkel in the Marine Reserve of the Bay of Palma without needing prior experience in open-water snorkelling.
Basic snorkelling techniques in open water
Use of mask, snorkel, and fins
Controlled entry and exit from the water
Awareness of marine flora and fauna
Following guided routes in a marine reserve
After boarding at Playa del Arenal, the boat heads towards Cala Vella, a protected natural area within the Marine Reserve of the Bay of Palma. The journey offers coastal views of undeveloped coves and clear water zones chosen for snorkelling conditions rather than speed or distance.
Once anchored, the guide provides a clear safety briefing and explains how to use the snorkelling equipment effectively. Masks, snorkels, fins, and life jackets are issued before entering the water. The snorkelling session is guided, with the instructor indicating routes and points of interest while ensuring the group remains together.
Time in the water is focused on observing Mediterranean marine life in shallow, calm conditions. For those who want to capture the experience, an optional underwater photo and video service is available using action cameras, provided as a paid extra.
The snorkelling takes place in Cala Vella Natural Park, a protected stretch of coastline south of Palma known for its clear water and limited boat traffic. As part of the Marine Reserve of the Bay of Palma, the area offers good visibility and a mix of rocky seabed and marine vegetation.
The meeting point is at Playa del Arenal, next to Club Nàutic S’Arenal. Boarding access is via the beach, directly from the sand. Guests must arrive at the boarding area at least 15 minutes before departure to allow time for equipment allocation and briefing.
Participants must be able to swim confidently, as this is a snorkelling-focused activity taking place in open water. Although life jackets are provided, guests are expected to be comfortable floating and moving independently in the sea.
The minimum age is 10 years, and children must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Guests should arrive on time, as late arrivals cannot be accommodated once boarding has closed.
This experience is designed specifically around snorkelling rather than general cruising, with a guided route and equipment included as standard. The focus is on access to protected waters rather than speed or entertainment, making it suitable for guests who want a practical introduction to snorkelling in Mallorca.
Operating in a designated marine reserve allows for more consistent conditions and better underwater visibility, while the short duration keeps the experience focused and accessible for visitors with limited time.
