We had an amazing time and learned a lot with Ivy

The Powerboat Level 2 course is the perfect way to develop essential skills for handling powerboats confidently and safely. This two-day practical training session will provide you with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to drive a powerboat and will also allow you to obtain the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), an internationally recognised qualification. Whether you’re looking to operate your own boat, work on superyachts, or enjoy recreational boating, this course is a great starting point.
The course is split over two full days, each packed with practical lessons and exercises. On Day 1, you’ll start with a safety briefing, followed by pre-departure checks, weather conditions, and an introduction to navigation and charts. You will then spend time on the water practising basic handling skills on the 8-metre RIB, including manoeuvring at slow and planing speeds, learning how to berth in marinas, and mooring on buoys.
Day 2 will focus more on refining your boat-handling skills, with plenty of practice time, including person-overboard recovery and executing safe trips using electronic and paper charts. You’ll also cover collision regulations and the correct use of navigation markers, lights, and day shapes. Throughout both days, there will be time for crewing and navigation work, ensuring you get hands-on experience in all aspects of operating a powerboat.
Our courses are conducted at Marina Vela, which offers an ideal training environment. This location features a bustling harbour perfect for practising collision regulations, and it provides easy access to various marinas, ideal for learning parking and close-quarters handling.
The surrounding coastline offers excellent conditions to practice manoeuvres at both slow and high speeds, ensuring varied and comprehensive training.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course; however, you should be comfortable with being on the water and have a basic level of fitness.
No previous boating experience is necessary, though a keen interest in boating will certainly help you get the most from the course.
Our professional, experienced team excels in creating a fun and memorable time on the water, with friendly, English-speaking instructors who ensure you get the most from your training.
Barcelona is an ideal location, offering sunny weather, strong winds, and an array of amazing spots to practice. All our boats are well-maintained for comfort, stability, and performance, ensuring you receive high-quality training on a reliable vessel. Whether you're planning to own a boat, work on superyachts, or simply enjoy boating in the future, we provide you with the skills and certification to get started.
The Powerboat Level 2 licence is valid indefinitely. Once issued, it is registered with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), and there is no requirement for revalidation.
This means you won't need to renew the certificate, ensuring that your qualification remains valid for life.
Yes, once you have completed the Powerboat Level 2 course, you are eligible to hire boats for recreational use.
Additionally, this qualification allows you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), which further enables you to hire boats internationally.
This course qualifies you to operate day boats during daylight hours, and within familiar waters. It is an excellent starting point for those new to boating.
If you wish to venture further afield or drive more complex vessels, we recommend taking the Dayskipper course for more in-depth training.
The Powerboat Level 2 licence itself is designed for recreational use. However, you can upgrade it to a commercial licence by completing additional qualifications such as a medical, STCW, VHF licence, and Dayskipper theory.
This upgraded commercial licence is essential for those wishing to use powerboats in a professional capacity, such as in the superyacht industry.
This is a key qualification for anyone wanting to work on superyachts, particularly for deck crew.
This licence is essential for operating smaller vessels and can be combined with other courses like the Personal Watercraft Instructors course to enhance your employability in the yachting industry.
Participants will need to bring a passport-sized photo for the licence, and a packed lunch or money to buy lunch at a local restaurant.
We recommend bringing a small bag with extra clothing layers, as there is storage on the boat. Non-slip shoes or trainers are essential for safety on deck, and don’t forget sunscreen and a hat for sunny days.
