If you have a passion for powerboating and a desire to share your skills with others, the RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is the perfect next step in your boating journey. This course equips you with the knowledge and teaching techniques necessary to instruct others safely and effectively. Whether you're looking to make powerboating a career or simply want to pass on your love of the sport, becoming an RYA Powerboat Instructor is a rewarding experience.
Our RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is a comprehensive programme that includes a two-day (or three for Advanced Instructors) training course followed by an assessment day. The course is designed to develop your teaching skills and prepare you to deliver RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses to new boaters. The final assessment ensures you have the competence to instruct others with confidence and professionalism.
The course begins with a skills assessment day, which includes both practical on-water activities and classroom sessions. This day is not about catching you out but rather ensuring your current powerboating skills meet the required standard to proceed with the instructor course.
Over the next three days, the course focuses on teaching techniques, lesson planning, and the use of visual aids, all within the context of the RYA Powerboat Level 2 syllabus. The course is led by an experienced RYA Powerboat Trainer and is moderated on the final day by a second trainer to ensure consistency and quality.
During the course, you'll be expected to deliver a ten-minute presentation on a topic from the RYA Powerboat Level 2 syllabus. Topics include:

The skills assessment, conducted on the first day, is designed to evaluate your current powerboating skills. It includes both practical exercises on the water and classroom-based theory. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that your skills meet the standard required to continue with the instructor training. It’s not about catching you out, but about confirming your readiness for the course.

The instructor/guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable, and we had great fun on the boat
We loved our boat trip, water doughnuts and speeding along 50mph + was great fun. Our skipper was lovely, very knowledgeable and enthusiasm shone through. Want to come back and see the puffins next year... although this was my soul reason to book this trip it really did not disappoint…
The Rib Tour was amazing! Exhilarating ride on the rib combined with fascinating facts about the coastline and the birds on puffin island. Highly recommended, will be booking the bridges tour next.
Exhilarating but also really informative. A great experience all round and highly recommended
Brilliant! Loved when Jason put the RIB into ‘sports mode’. Perfect mix of adventure and information. Beautiful scenery, great morning in the water. Cheers guys.
What a great experience. Our skipper, Jason, was great. Good chat, very knowledgable and really pushed the boat. The boat is an impressive thing which really moves. Great experience! Will be back to do the other tour.
Excellent!
Splendid trip!.....Captain was very knowledgeable.
We really enjoyed the boat trip to Puffin Island (2 August) - the people before us saw 2 puffins but even though we didn't it was still an exhilarating, (fast at times) and informative trip.
