Our RYA Competent Crew course is a fantastic way to learn sailing in a relaxed yet practical setting. Over five days, you’ll gain hands-on experience while living aboard a modern yacht, allowing you to explore the waters of Barcelona and beyond. Perfect for beginners, this course not only helps you develop core sailing skills but also equips you with the RYA Competent Crew certificate, a step toward becoming a confident sailor.
Throughout the five days, you’ll be actively involved in all aspects of sailing. From preparing the boat and getting familiar with safety equipment to learning essential sailing techniques, each day will build your confidence and skills. You'll practice boat handling in the marina, learn how to reef sails in stronger winds, and participate in man-overboard recovery drills. Expect a lot of hands-on sailing, where you’ll have plenty of time helming the boat and working with the crew to ensure smooth sailing.
You’ll also get the chance to visit beautiful locations along the coast, including ports such as Sitges, Blanes, and Tossa De Mar. Each evening, the boat will anchor at a new spot, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding areas and learn more about navigation, route planning, and teamwork. The course is designed to be practical and interactive, with instructors offering personalised guidance to ensure you’re comfortable with each new challenge.
The course takes place in Barcelona, offering the perfect setting to start your sailing adventure. Situated near the Barceloneta beaches, our centre provides easy access to the Mediterranean waters, with the Costa Brava to the north and Costa Dorada to the south.
This gives you the opportunity to sail along some of Spain’s most scenic coastlines and visit scenic locations such as Sitges and Tossa De Mar.
Accommodation is provided onboard the yacht, where you will sleep in one of three double cabins. If you’re travelling with a partner, you can share a cabin, or you can opt for single occupancy for an additional fee.
The boat is fully equipped with two shower/toilet facilities and a galley for cooking meals. All bedding, including pillows and linens, is provided. Breakfast and lunch are also served onboard, ensuring you’re well-fed and ready for a day of sailing.
There are no prior sailing requirements for this course. It’s designed specifically for beginners, so anyone with an interest in learning the basics of sailing can join.
The course is taught in English, and you will receive hands-on instruction, making it easy to learn at your own pace.

The course price does not include dinner, so you will need to budget for evening meals. There are many local restaurants and eateries where you can enjoy a variety of dishes.

If you’re travelling alone, you will be allocated a shared cabin with another participant, unless you choose to pay for single occupancy.

Each day, you’ll start with a briefing on the day’s activities, followed by practical sailing sessions. You will learn how to prepare the boat, trim sails, handle the boat in the marina, and more.
In the evenings, you will anchor in different locations, allowing you to visit nearby ports or enjoy some free time to relax.
The course is designed to be hands-on, with plenty of time for you to practice what you’ve learned.

Yes, the course can be split into two separate weekends for added flexibility. This option is ideal for those with limited time during the week. The content and skills covered remain the same, ensuring you still gain the full Day Skipper qualification.
