Spend a full day paddling the River Tweed on a 22km journey through the heart of the Scottish Borders. This guided canoe trip is perfect for anyone looking for an active outdoor experience, whether you're a complete beginner or have tried paddling before.
Your day starts with a full safety briefing and an introduction to paddling technique, led by friendly, qualified instructors. You’ll be fitted with equipment and given time to practise before heading onto the water. The route begins at Stobo and follows a 22km section of the River Tweed, known for its calm, steady flow and scenic surroundings.
As you paddle downstream, you’ll pass through peaceful stretches of woodland, open countryside, and gentle curves in the river where wildlife is often spotted. There will be regular breaks along the way to stretch, eat, rehydrate, or take in the views. It’s a sociable, steady-paced trip with guidance throughout, making it suitable for mixed-ability groups and anyone who enjoys being active outdoors. The trip finishes at Innerleithen, where you’ll be met and collected.
The session takes place on the River Tweed, beginning near Stobo and finishing in Innerleithen, both within the Tweed Valley in the Scottish Borders. This area is well known for its scenic river routes and quiet countryside, offering an ideal environment for paddling day trips. The river is wide and meandering, with mostly calm water suitable for beginners and younger participants.
The Tweed Valley itself is a popular outdoor destination just over an hour from Edinburgh. The surrounding towns of Peebles and Innerleithen offer plenty of spots to eat, shop, or explore after your paddle. Parking and meeting points will be confirmed upon booking, with transport arranged to and from the start and finish of the paddle route.
No previous paddling experience is needed — the session is open to complete beginners and all essential instruction is provided at the start. The route is suitable for anyone aged 8 and over, with equipment adjusted for comfort and ease of use.
Participants should be reasonably fit and able to spend several hours actively paddling. You’ll need to be comfortable wearing a buoyancy aid and being on the water for extended periods, though the river is calm and well suited to learners.
The centre is run by experienced instructors who specialise in safe, enjoyable outdoor adventures for all ages and abilities. Sessions are carefully planned to balance challenge with accessibility, so everyone feels supported and involved.
With small group sizes, quality equipment, and a focus on safety and fun, this trip is a great option for families, friends, corporate teams, or groups celebrating special occasions. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Scottish Borders, it’s an excellent way to spend a day outside, trying something different.
We provide 30 litre barrels between 2, for people to keep items dry.
Generally two people would normally share a boat, but some have 3 seats so can add a third person if needed.
We always aim to provide as much notice as possible if an activity cannot go ahead. This might occur due to factors such as high river levels for canoeing or severe weather warnings for wind.
Occasionally, unforeseen circumstances may require us to cancel at short notice. In such cases, we will do our best to offer an alternative activity or location.
If we have to cancel an activity, any money paid will be fully refunded.
