Set off from the heart of Peebles and enjoy a relaxed paddle along one of Scotland’s most scenic rivers. This guided trip on the River Tweed is ideal for beginners, families, or anyone keen to spend a few hours immersed in nature. With gentle water, varied scenery and the chance to spot wildlife, it’s a peaceful yet rewarding outing.
We begin our journey in Peebles, setting out on the River Tweed with steady, scenic paddling downstream toward Innerleithen. The water here is calm, making it a suitable route for complete beginners and a relaxing one for more experienced paddlers. Our guides will give a full introduction to basic paddling techniques and support throughout the trip, allowing you to build confidence as you go.
You’ll travel through peaceful countryside, taking in the natural and historic sights of the Scottish Borders. Expect to see rolling farmland, wooded banks, and the occasional riverside ruin. Wildlife is often spotted along this stretch of river—herons, kingfishers and even otters have been seen here. Around the halfway point, we’ll stop for a short refreshment break, so feel free to bring a flask or light snack. The trip ends in Innerleithen, and we can assist with arranging transport back to Peebles if needed.
This session runs along the River Tweed, one of the most iconic rivers in Scotland, flowing through the picturesque Borders region. The meeting point is Kingsmeadow Car Park in Peebles, a short walk from the river. You'll finish at Toll Wood in Innerleithen, where there’s vehicle access for collection.
The River Tweed offers a varied landscape of wooded hillsides, open meadows, and charming villages, providing a great introduction to Scottish countryside paddling.
Please note: The guide can transport up to five people back to the meeting point at the end of the trip to collect their car if needed.
No prior canoeing experience is needed, and the trip is designed to be accessible to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. All equipment is provided, and instruction is given at the start.
Children aged 10 and over are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. You should be comfortable being outdoors for 3 hours, including time on the water and a short break on land.
The team is dedicated to making your experience feel personal, safe and genuinely enjoyable. With small group sizes and knowledgeable local instructors, every trip is tailored to suit those taking part.
Whether you're trying canoeing for the first time or just want a relaxing way to see the Borders, they make it easy to connect with the landscape. They also offer a flexible approach—able to design and deliver adventures across Scotland, from rivers to lochs and beyond.
We recommend old clothing/trainers that you’re happy to get a little wet. We also recommend a spare change of clothes, just in case! We also recommend you wear waterproofs. Please bring any snacks and refreshments you might want along the way.
We provide 30-litre dry barrels between two to keep your things dry, and provide all of the canoeing and safety equipment.
Generally, two people would normally share a boat.
Your group must all be aged 10+ to take part in the river trip. If you have youngsters aged 4+, we recommend taking a look at our loch and canal trips at the bottom of this page, which are suitable for younger paddlers.
We will always try to give as much notice as possible if an activity can’t go ahead. It could be the river is too high for canoeing or we are expecting weather warnings for wind. Sometimes things are out of our control and we may have to cancel with very short notice. In all cases, we will try to offer an alternative activity or location. In the event of a canceled activity by us, you will be refunded if we cannot find a suitable alternative date/time/activity for your group.
However, it’s worth saying that we will only cancel in the event that it is unsafe to paddle. A bit of drizzle won’t stop us! Please assume the trip is going ahead unless we contact you to say otherwise. The vast majority of our trips go ahead as planned, come rain or shine!
Absolutely. We can tailor this trip to you and your group, no trouble. Any special requests, please just mention them in the comments when you book, or send the adventuro team a message in the chat for bespoke arrangements.
