Yoga and Paddleboarding through adventure Paddleboarding was fantastic! A great experience as part of my sister’s hen do. Lucy was upbeat, had brilliant knowledge to help up with equipment and took some brilliant photos of us on the water!

Take on a guided river journey through the heart of Perthshire. This 4–5 hour paddleboarding trip follows a calm section of the River Tay from Grandtully to Dunkeld, offering light rapids, steady flow, and great scenery along the way. It’s ideal for those with a little SUP experience looking to try something new in a relaxed, supportive group.
You’ll meet your guide and group in Dunkeld before sorting out the short car shuttle to the start point near Grandtully. After a full safety briefing, everyone will get their equipment ready and set off on the river together. The first stretch is calm and steady, allowing time to warm up and find your balance before reaching sections of light moving water.
As the group moves downstream, the river widens and the flow picks up slightly, passing wooded banks and open farmland. Your guide will give tips on positioning, efficient paddling, and reading the water. There are small, easy rapids to add a bit of fun without being technical. It’s a great setting for building confidence while covering a good distance.
Midway through the journey there’s a stop for lunch and a drink, with time to relax before continuing the second half of the route. The final section towards Dunkeld is gentle, giving everyone a chance to take it easy before finishing the day. Once off the water, you’ll have your dry kit waiting and can get changed before heading off or exploring the town.
The River Tay is one of Scotland’s best-known waterways and offers a great balance between calm paddling and small areas of flow. This route runs between Grandtully and Dunkeld, covering several quiet kilometres of scenic Perthshire countryside.
Dunkeld itself is easy to reach from most parts of Scotland, with good rail and road connections. There’s parking near the meeting point, and the car logistics are handled before the paddle so everything is ready for when you return.
This trip is best suited to people who have tried paddleboarding before and are comfortable standing on their board for a few hours. Total beginners are encouraged to try a short flatwater session first.
You should be able to paddle steadily for a few hours with short breaks. The guide will provide coaching and advice throughout, so you can enjoy the river safely while improving your technique.
The session is designed to be straightforward and enjoyable, with experienced local guides who know the river well. Group sizes are kept small so everyone gets individual support and guidance when needed.
Each trip is run at an easy pace with a focus on safety, skill development, and making sure everyone enjoys the day. You’ll come away with more confidence on moving water and a memorable day out in one of Scotland’s most scenic regions.
You’ll need to come prepared for time on the water, so make sure to bring essentials that keep you comfortable before, during, and after your session. A towel and a full change of clothes are recommended in case you get wet, along with swimwear or trunks to wear under a wetsuit. It’s also a good idea to wear shoes that can get wet or bring a spare pair for afterwards.
Snacks and drinks will help keep your energy up, especially on longer sessions. If you take any medication, please ensure you have it with you on the day. And, most importantly, bring a sense of adventure and a willingness to have fun—this makes all the difference on the water.
These activities are open to participants aged 14 and above. This ensures everyone taking part can safely handle the equipment and enjoy the experience. The sessions are designed to be inclusive and family-friendly while still maintaining the right level of supervision and safety for younger participants.
Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian either on the water with them or nearby at the viewing point for the duration of the session. This policy may vary slightly depending on the specific activity or location, but safety and supervision are always the top priority.
All sessions depend on the weather and water conditions to make sure they’re safe and fun for everyone involved. In the case of strong winds, heavy rain, or unsafe water levels, sessions may need to be postponed or moved to a more sheltered location. The decision will always be made with your safety in mind.
If a session has to be rescheduled or relocated, you’ll be contacted in advance with as much notice as possible. The team keeps a close eye on forecasts and conditions, and any changes will be clearly communicated so that you can plan your day with confidence.
You should have done at least one beginner paddleboarding session before joining this trip. You’ll need to feel comfortable standing and paddling for several hours and be able to steer your board in light moving water.
If you’re unsure, you can always take a flatwater lesson first to get used to the basics before tackling the river route.
The River Tay has gentle flow with short, easy rapids rated grade 1. It’s suitable for people with limited experience as long as they can balance and paddle with some control.
The route is scenic and calm for most of the journey, with just enough movement in the water to make it more interesting than flat paddling.
The full paddle takes around 4–5 hours, depending on river flow and group size. You’ll meet in Dunkeld, leave some cars there, and then travel together to the start point near Grandtully.
At the end of the journey, you’ll finish back at Dunkeld where your dry kit is waiting. There’s time to get changed and talk through the day with the group before heading off.
Yes, if you have your own SUP and safety equipment you’re welcome to use it. The guide will check your setup to make sure it’s suitable for the river.
Those using their own kit get a small discount, but everyone joins the same group briefing and paddles together on the same route.
