A few hours on the water offers a relaxed way to experience the north coast of the Dominican Republic. This private catamaran cruise gives your group exclusive use of the boat while you snorkel at Sosúa Reef, enjoy a freshly grilled BBQ, and make the most of the open bar, with private transfers included for both cruise passengers and hotel guests.
Once your group is collected from your hotel or cruise terminal, a comfortable transfer takes you along the north coast towards Sosúa. Travel time is typically between 30 and 50 minutes depending on traffic. On arrival, your crew will welcome you on the beach and help you board the catamaran using a ladder. After a short safety briefing and introduction to the crew, the boat heads out into the clear Caribbean waters.
The cruise begins with a relaxed sail along the coastline, giving you time to settle in and enjoy the open bar while the crew prepares snorkelling equipment. The boat then anchors near Sosúa Reef, a popular snorkelling area known for its clear water and marine life. Guests can enter the water with masks and fins to explore the reef while the crew keeps watch from the boat and assists anyone who needs help getting in or out.
After snorkelling, the focus shifts to enjoying the boat and the food. A light Dominican BBQ is served on board, including grilled sausage, chicken, and meat brochettes alongside parsley bread and fresh fruit. The open bar continues to serve rum drinks, cocktails, beer, and soft drinks while the catamaran cruises back along the coast. When the trip ends, your driver is ready to take you comfortably back to your hotel or cruise port.
Along the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Sosúa is well known for its sheltered bay and accessible coral reefs. The calm water and good visibility make it one of the most reliable snorkelling locations in the Puerto Plata region, particularly for relaxed coastal trips like this one.
Guests join the experience via private transfers from nearby hotels or directly from Amber Cove and Taino Bay cruise terminals. Cruise passengers are met inside the terminal by a guide and escorted to transport, helping ensure the trip runs smoothly and returns well before ship departure times.
Participants should be comfortable around water and able to climb a ladder when boarding the catamaran from the beach. While snorkelling experience is not required, guests who wish to explore the reef will enjoy the activity more if they have basic swimming ability. Life jackets are available for added support in the water.
Due to the beach boarding process and ladder access, the trip may not be suitable for travellers with limited mobility. It is also not recommended for pregnant guests. Anyone unsure about participating in snorkelling can simply remain on the catamaran and enjoy the cruise instead.
Having the entire catamaran reserved for your group creates a far more relaxed experience compared with shared boat trips. You can enjoy the snorkelling stop, meal, and drinks at a comfortable pace while the crew focuses solely on your group’s needs.
Transport, cruise coordination, and the day’s schedule are handled in advance so you can simply focus on enjoying your time on the water. From pickup to return, everything is organised to keep the outing smooth, social, and easy to fit into a cruise stop or holiday day out.
Your group has exclusive use of the catamaran for the entire experience. That means no other guests join the boat, allowing you to enjoy the space with just your friends or family and the onboard crew.
A private setup also gives the crew flexibility with the timing of snorkelling, food service, and cruising. The atmosphere tends to feel more relaxed because the experience is focused entirely on your group.
Many guests joining this trip have little or no previous snorkelling experience. The crew provides the necessary equipment and gives simple guidance before anyone enters the water.
Sosúa Reef is a good place for beginners because the water is generally calm and visibility is often very good. Life jackets are available for anyone who wants additional support while floating and observing the fish below.
A light Dominican BBQ meal is prepared during the cruise and served on the catamaran. The meal includes grilled sausage, chicken and meat brochettes, along with parsley bread and fresh fruit such as pineapple and watermelon.
The food is designed to be simple and satisfying without taking too much time away from enjoying the boat. Guests can eat while relaxing on deck or while taking in the views of the coastline.
The open bar includes a selection of rum drinks, cocktails, beer, soft drinks and fruit juices. These are served throughout the cruise by the onboard crew.
Guests are welcome to request their preferred drinks while relaxing on deck. The bar remains open during the snorkelling stop and throughout the return cruise.
Cruise passengers are met directly inside the Amber Cove or Taino Bay cruise terminals by a guide holding a sign. From there, they are escorted to a private transfer vehicle for the journey to Sosúa.
The guide also monitors the schedule to ensure the group returns to the port with plenty of time before the ship’s departure. This coordination helps remove any stress around timing.
