Experience one of the Dominican Republic’s most active days out, combining canyon exploration with a zipline circuit above the forest canopy. This half-day adventure takes you into the heart of the Damajagua waterfalls, where natural rock slides, jumps and clear pools create an unforgettable outdoor experience. Refuel afterwards with a traditional Dominican lunch before heading back to Puerto Plata.
Your day begins with transport to the Damajagua reserve or direct arrival in Puerto Plata. After check-in and safety briefing, you’ll be fitted with a helmet and life jacket before setting off on a guided hike through tropical forest. The ascent takes around 45 minutes and includes safety instructions at the top before entering the waterfalls.
From there, the descent begins. You’ll navigate a series of natural rock formations by climbing, sliding and jumping into freshwater pools. Each section is supervised by experienced guides. If you prefer not to jump or slide, steps are available in certain sections so you can still access the pools safely. The water is clear and refreshing, and the canyon walls create a unique setting as you move downstream.
After the waterfall section, you’ll head to the zipline circuit. Harnessed securely, you’ll glide above the treetops with open views of the surrounding mountains and forest. The combination of canyon exploration and aerial lines makes this one of the most varied half-day adventures in the region. A traditional Dominican lunch is served afterwards, giving you time to relax and recover before returning.
This experience takes place at the 27 Charcos de Damajagua reserve, located approximately 30–40 minutes from central Puerto Plata. The area sits within a protected natural zone known for its limestone rock formations, freshwater pools and dense vegetation. It is one of the most established canyoning-style routes in the country.
Puerto Plata itself lies on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, backed by mountain ranges and facing the Atlantic Ocean. The region is known for its varied terrain — from coastal beaches to jungle valleys — making it ideal for combining water-based and high-adrenaline activities in a single day.
Participants must be at least 13 years old and comfortable in water. A moderate level of fitness is required due to the uphill hike and uneven terrain. You should be confident walking on natural trails and climbing over rocks with guidance.
This activity is not recommended for those with back problems, heart conditions or for pregnant travellers. The route involves jumping, sliding and navigating wet surfaces. Water shoes are strongly recommended but not included.
This experience is shaped by deep local knowledge. Being born and raised in Puerto Plata means understanding the landscape, the culture and how to deliver a well-organised day that runs smoothly from start to finish. Every tour is planned with attention to timing, safety and guest comfort.
Years of experience in travel operations ensure clear communication, reliable transport and professional guiding standards. The goal is simple: help visitors experience both the natural side of the north coast and its warm hospitality, leaving with memories that reflect the real character of Puerto Plata.
No previous canyoning experience is required. The route is guided from start to finish, and you will receive safety instructions before entering the waterfalls. Guides are positioned throughout the descent to support you during jumps, slides and climbs.
That said, you should be comfortable in water and confident moving on uneven natural terrain. A moderate level of fitness is necessary due to the uphill hike and physical nature of the activity.
The hike takes approximately 45 minutes uphill through jungle terrain. The path includes natural steps, uneven ground and warm tropical conditions, so you should expect to sweat and exert yourself.
It is manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness, but it is not suitable for those with mobility limitations. Good grip footwear is strongly recommended.
No. While many participants choose to jump from the rock ledges into the pools, alternative routes are available in several sections. Steps allow access to the water without jumping.
Slides are also natural rock formations shaped by the river, and guides will explain each option clearly before you proceed. You can choose what feels comfortable at each stage.
Wear swimwear underneath lightweight clothing that can get wet. Quick-dry shorts and a rash vest or athletic top work well. Closed-toe water shoes with grip are strongly advised.
Avoid flip-flops or sandals. You should also bring a towel and a change of clothes for after the activity.
The zipline circuit follows the waterfall experience and consists of multiple lines across forest terrain. You will be securely harnessed and attached to safety systems at all times.
The lines vary in length and height, offering elevated views over the surrounding landscape. Guides provide clear instructions before each launch.
A traditional Dominican-style lunch is included after the activities. Meals typically feature local flavours such as rice, beans, chicken and fresh sides.
It is designed to be filling after a physically active morning. If you have dietary requirements, these should be communicated in advance where possible.
The minimum age for participation is 13 years. Teenagers should be comfortable in water and physically capable of completing the hike and canyon sections.
Parents or guardians should assess whether their child is confident with heights and natural terrain before booking.
The activity is not recommended for people with back problems, heart conditions or for pregnant travellers. The route involves impact from jumps and physical climbing.
If you have any medical concerns, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional before booking. Participants must be in generally good health.
Activities operate in most weather conditions, including light rain, as water flow is part of the experience. However, operations may pause if river conditions are deemed unsafe.
In rare cases of cancellation due to safety concerns, alternative arrangements or rescheduling options will be provided.
This experience can often be booked close to the departure time, subject to availability. However, during peak seasons, spaces fill quickly due to limited group sizes.
Advance booking is recommended to secure your preferred date and ensure smooth coordination of transport and entry permits.
