Nine to three with one coach, private to your family of up to four: a two-hour surf lesson, then a two-hour paddle on a quieter stretch of coast. First stands stay in white water you can stand in. Boards, paddles, buoyancy aids and wetsuits are included.
This morning is usually the surf while the tide is useful. After a break you move onto paddleboards, often at a more sheltered spot if the swell is lively. The coach stays with your family for both sessions.
Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am. Beaches are confirmed the day before around swell, wind and tide. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach. There is time to come in, eat a snack and go back out rather than rushing the middle of the day.
The usual surf beaches are Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, and Manorbier. The paddle often uses a calmer stretch nearby, or Tenby, Saundersfoot or Stackpole Quay when that water suits the group better.
Parking sits near each beach. If a planned spot is unusable we move and message you. Check your messages the evening before so you drive to the right car park for the morning.
Children from 7 can join both the surf and the paddle. No surfing or paddleboarding experience is needed. Everyone should be happy in the sea and able to swim about 25 metres. The session follows the youngest or least confident person.
Swimwear, a towel, a warm layer and a snack for the middle of the day. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach for the whole half day.
One coach stays with your family from the first brief on the sand through to the last paddle. Coaches hold ISA surf and SUP awards and work as beach lifeguards, and sessions are AALA licensed.
There is time to come in, warm up and switch from surf to paddle. Mixed ages share the same coach, and the pace stays with the youngest or least confident person.
Morning meeting beach is confirmed the day before. That is usually Freshwater West, Castlemartin, SA71 5HW, or Manorbier. Park in the beach car park and walk to the flagged meeting point.
Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am so you can change and talk through what each person wants from the half day. The paddle spot is confirmed with the same message if it is not the same beach.
Yes. The coach is yours from 9am to 3pm. The brief, the surf and the paddle follow your family, which helps mixed ages and people who want different amounts of coaching in the same half day.
Boards and wetsuits are fitted on the sand. There is time to come in, warm up and switch from surf to paddle rather than rushing a short window.
Up to four people in the private group. That keeps the coach close enough to give cues between waves and on the paddle. Tell us ages so we can put the right boards out for both sessions.
Larger parties should send a message in advance. We can look at more than one coach on the same beaches if the numbers need it.
Surf comes first for about two hours, then a two-hour paddle after a break in the middle of the day. The order can swap if the tide or wind makes the paddle the better morning session.
The whole window is 9am to 3pm, including changing and the move between beaches if the paddle is not on the same stretch. Give yourself 15 minutes before 9am.
Seven. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach for the whole half day. The pace stays with the youngest or least confident person in the group for both the surf and the paddle.
Tell us ages so we can put the right boards out. Mixed ages share the same coach, just at a calmer pace if a child is in the water.
No. First-timers and people who already stand up can share the same private half day. Tell the coach at the start so the drills match what each person can already do on a surfboard and on a paddleboard.
If everyone in the group already rides unbroken waves, say so. The surf can spend less time on a first-stand script and more time on where to sit.
Morning beach is confirmed the day before. That is usually Freshwater West or Manorbier for the surf. Park in the beach car park and walk to the flagged meeting point.
If the paddle uses a different stretch we send that pin in the same message. Check your messages the evening before so you are not driving to a closed car park.
Surfboard, paddleboard, buoyancy aid and wetsuit for each person, fitted on the sand. We match the craft to size and how the water is working. Your own full-length suit is fine.
Leave phones and bags in the car. If someone needs medication in the water, give it to the coach at the start so it can travel with the group.
Ordinary wind and rain do not stop the half day. We move beach when the swell or wind makes the planned spot unsafe, or if we cannot run a useful surf or paddle there.
Check your messages the evening before if you are travelling a long way. The paddle can use a more sheltered stretch if the surf beach is lively.
Swimwear, a towel, a warm dry layer and sunscreen for each person. A water bottle and a snack help in the middle of the day. Get changed into swimwear before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.
Flip-flops are useful for the walk from the car. Leave valuables in the car. Pack a bag for wet swimwear afterwards.
Everyone should be able to swim about 25 metres and be happy in the sea. First stands stay in water you can stand in, but you still fall in. The coach stays with your group for both sessions.
If one person is very nervous, say so in advance. The coach can keep them closer and spend longer on the first minutes in the white water and on the paddle.

Leon was an amazing instructor
Hi, thanks it was great, 5 stars, great teacher. Cheers, Sarah
Our booking was at midday for 2 hours, but we didn’t get the stuff until 12:15 when the lady came back with the surf school. We were then told to bring the stuff back before 2 pm or she wouldn’t be there (we needed to get our deposit back). This…
Got some surfboards and wetsuits for a couple of hours. They were dropped off at the right place right time, he was very helpful and knowledgeable, gave us a little info about the beach because we hadn't surfed there before. Will definitely be using again and recommending
We enjoyed our kayaking thoroughly. Much thanks to Jenny who supported our ride plan and made changes accordingly. Big cheers to her 👏🏻🙌🏼
