The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is an internationally recognised certificate, essential for anyone looking to own or rent a boat in most European and worldwide countries. Whether you’re planning a leisurely cruise in the Mediterranean or need certification to rent a boat abroad, the ICC is your passport to freedom on the water.
We offer two classes of ICC certification: Power up to 10m and Power up to 24m (coastal). You can obtain your ICC by either successfully completing the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course or by undergoing a direct assessment. Our courses and assessments are designed to ensure you meet the international standards required to operate a powerboat safely and confidently.

Our training centre is located in the beautiful Menai Bridge, North Wales, where we operate from the scenic Conwy Marina. The waters here are generally sheltered, making them ideal for training, while the proximity to the Menai Strait offers a more challenging environment that provides valuable real-world experience. Our classroom is just minutes from the pier, allowing for seamless transitions from theory to practical sessions.
For the Direct ICC Assessment, a good level of practical boating experience is required. We’re happy to discuss your experience to determine if the direct assessment is suitable for you.

You can obtain your ICC through two main pathways:

We offer two classes of ICC:
For the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course, no prior experience is required, making it ideal for beginners.
However, for the Direct ICC Assessment, you should have substantial hands-on boating experience.

The direct ICC assessment is a half-day practical and theory test. During this assessment, you’ll need to demonstrate:
Yes, theory is a crucial component of both the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course and the direct ICC assessment. It covers navigation, collision regulations, safety procedures, and environmental awareness. Even experienced boaters sometimes need a refresher on these topics, which is why we recommend taking the Level 2 course if you're unsure of your theory knowledge.
Once you’ve successfully completed the course or passed the assessment, you can apply for your ICC through the RYA. We’ll provide you with all the necessary documentation and guidance on how to submit your application.
While the ICC is recognised in many countries worldwide, its acceptance can vary outside of Europe. It’s always advisable to check the specific boating requirements of the country you plan to visit before you travel.

We loved our boat trip, water doughnuts and speeding along 50mph + was great fun. Our skipper was lovely, very knowledgeable and enthusiasm shone through. Want to come back and see the puffins next year... although this was my soul reason to book this trip it really did not disappoint…
The Rib Tour was amazing! Exhilarating ride on the rib combined with fascinating facts about the coastline and the birds on puffin island. Highly recommended, will be booking the bridges tour next.

What a great experience. Our skipper, Jason, was great. Good chat, very knowledgable and really pushed the boat. The boat is an impressive thing which really moves. Great experience! Will be back to do the other tour.

We really enjoyed the boat trip to Puffin Island (2 August) - the people before us saw 2 puffins but even though we didn't it was still an exhilarating, (fast at times) and informative trip.
