The route runs from Pokhara to Nayapul, then climbs through Ulleri to Ghorepani over two trekking days. A pre-dawn climb to Poon Hill on the final morning is followed by a descent to Hile and a drive back to Pokhara.
First and last nights are spent in a three-star or better hotel in Pokhara, while the two nights on the trail are in simple guesthouses with twin rooms, shared bathrooms and a heated common room for the evenings. Guesthouse rooms come with blankets, and a light extra layer is usually enough for a comfortable night's sleep at this altitude.
A well-trodden trail and frequent guesthouses make this a straightforward route for a genuine Himalayan sunrise on a short timeframe. Guides know every turn of the trail and are experienced at helping first-time trekkers settle into the rhythm quickly.
Transport, permits and guesthouse bookings are confirmed ahead of departure, keeping the trip simple to follow from the moment guests are picked up in Pokhara.
Ulleri and Ghorepani sit within a belt of rhododendron and oak forest on the lower slopes of the Annapurna range, home to Magar communities whose stone-roofed houses line the trail through both villages. Poon Hill itself, just above Ghorepani at 3,210 metres, is one of the most accessible wide-angle mountain viewpoints in Nepal, taking in Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre from a single spot.
Pokhara, the base for this trek, sits on Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range visible across the water on a clear day, and is where the trip begins with a hotel pickup on the first morning before the short drive to the trailhead at Nayapul.
The first and last nights of the trip are spent in a three-star or better hotel in Pokhara, with private bathrooms and hot water. The two nights on the trail itself are in simple guesthouses with twin rooms and shared bathrooms.
Each guesthouse has a heated common room for the evenings, and rooms come with blankets as standard. Most trekkers find a light extra layer is all that is needed for a comfortable night's sleep at this altitude, rather than a full winter sleeping bag.
