Step into SUP coaching with this Paddle UK accredited training designed for those ready to lead sessions in sheltered water. This two-day course focuses on the skills needed to support beginner and intermediate paddlers with confidence and professionalism.
The course blends practical coaching sessions with structured discussion and feedback, placing a strong emphasis on how to create effective, enjoyable learning experiences. On the first day, you’ll focus on the fundamentals of delivering SUP coaching. This includes understanding learner needs, session structuring, and using clear, adaptable communication methods. You’ll take part in practical activities that highlight the importance of progression, observation, and individualised support for your paddlers.
The second day builds on these foundations with a deeper dive into session delivery and safety management. You’ll explore how to coach confidently in a range of sheltered water scenarios, covering topics like group control, dynamic risk assessment, and responding to incidents. You'll also gain hands-on experience managing real-time situations and refining your delivery style with the support of experienced tutors.
The course takes place on a calm stretch of the River Thames in Brentford, West London. This area provides excellent conditions for SUP coaching development, with consistent sheltered water and accessible launch points.
Situated near Ferry Lane, the location is easy to reach by road and public transport. It's well suited for paddlesport training and includes space for on-shore coaching and group briefings.
You must have completed Core Coach Training or an equivalent course prior to attending, as this ensures you already understand the foundations of effective coaching.
You’ll also need to hold Paddlesport Safety and Rescue (or Foundation Safety and Rescue) to take part. These courses equip you with the practical safety knowledge needed for managing sheltered water coaching sessions.
The centre is run by a team of dedicated coaches who bring years of experience across a wide range of paddlesport disciplines. With a focus on building confident, capable coaches, they tailor sessions to your coaching level and personal goals.
Whether you're looking to support a club, teach beginners, or lead community sessions, the team creates a relaxed but professional environment where practical coaching skills come first. You'll leave with greater clarity and confidence in your role as a SUP coach.
