What to Expect

You will be collected from your hotel in Marrakech and driven towards the Atlas Mountains, arriving at Imlil Valley where you will be welcomed with tea at a local guesthouse. Once you are ready, your bike and helmet will be prepared, and you will start cycling on a gentle uphill asphalt road towards Tizi n’ Tamatert Pass. This first section offers sweeping views of Imlil and Imnane Valleys, a perfect introduction to the landscape.

After reaching the pass, you will continue further along the road to Tachedirt village, one of the highest villages in the Atlas Mountains at over 2350m. Here the surface changes to an unpaved mountain road, offering a downhill ride through a series of Berber villages including Ouanskra, Ikkis, Amsakrou and Imsker. Lunch will be provided in one of these villages, giving you a taste of local Moroccan food. The journey continues downhill all the way to Asni, where your ride concludes. From there, you will be driven back to Marrakech.

Location

The tour is based around the Imlil Valley region in the High Atlas Mountains, roughly an hour’s drive from Marrakech. This area is known for its traditional Berber villages, terraced fields, and panoramic mountain views. It offers a complete contrast to the busy streets of the city, showcasing Morocco’s rural landscapes.

The biking routes explore quiet paths through the foothills and valleys, giving you an authentic insight into life in the Atlas. From rugged peaks to green valleys and tiny hamlets, this area is rich in culture and natural diversity. The trip is timed so that you can enjoy clear views and comfortable cycling conditions throughout the day.

Prerequisites

Participants should be comfortable riding a mountain bike for approximately 4 hours on mixed surfaces including asphalt and dirt tracks. 

A basic level of fitness is recommended but you do not need technical mountain biking experience.
