Learn to lead traditional rock climbing routes with this comprehensive three-day course. You’ll gain the confidence and knowledge to place your own protection while climbing on real rock. Perfect for climbers looking to transition into leading trad routes, this course will help you develop the skills necessary for outdoor climbing adventures.
This hands-on course will teach you how to lead trad climbs, from choosing the right venues to placing protection gear and building solid anchors. The course is spread across three days, allowing you to gradually develop your skills in real-world climbing conditions. On the first day, you'll cover the basics, including how to move while leading and the different types of gear you will use. You'll also learn how to manage the risks associated with trad climbing.
The second and third days will be focused on practical application. You'll get the opportunity to lead routes under the guidance of experienced instructors. They will coach you on how to assess the route, place your protection, and belay your climbing partner safely. You'll also receive tips on how to increase your efficiency and confidence while leading. By the end of the course, you'll feel prepared to tackle trad climbing routes independently and safely.
The course will take place at various crags in South West England. These may include Sand Point, Brean Down in Somerset, and Leigh Tor in Devon. Locations are confirmed upon booking, so you'll know exactly where to head. The diverse crags offer a variety of challenges, making them ideal for gaining hands-on experience in trad climbing.
