Key Details
- Location: Wallasey Beach, Wirral
- Group size: 1–2 people
- Session length: Based on tide times
- Certification required: BKSA or IKO Level 2
What to Expect
Before going on the water, you will complete a 10-minute safety and ability assessment to ensure you meet the required skill level. This includes demonstrating control over riding speed by edging, consistent riding in all directions including upwind, and the ability to change direction without stopping. You’ll also need to show competence in launching and landing the kite safely, body dragging in both directions, self-rescue techniques, and packing down equipment in the water.
Once you pass the assessment, you will receive a full kit tailored to the current conditions. Rental times depend on tide schedules, so your session will be booked accordingly to ensure safety and space on the beach. If you do not meet the necessary skills during assessment, a private lesson with a qualified instructor will be recommended before hiring.
Location
Wallasey Beach on the Wirral Peninsula offers open water, consistent winds and long sandy stretches that are ideal for kitesurfing—outside of high tide periods. The beach is known for its shallow waters at mid to low tide, which provide a safer and more manageable environment for launching, landing and riding.
It’s essential to book around the tide, as space and safety become restricted during high tide conditions.
Prerequisites
To rent equipment, you must hold either a BKSA or IKO Level 2 certification or demonstrate equivalent skill and experience. A short on-site assessment will be carried out to confirm competence before any hire is approved. If you are unable to meet the assessment criteria, a private lesson will be required before proceeding.
You’ll also need your own third-party liability cover, available through BKSA membership. Please bring recognised ID and a bank card at the time of hire. Equipment lost or damaged must be paid for at 70% of the retail price.
