Paddle out from the beach with an instructor guiding the way on a kayak tour that takes in a stop for snorkelling at the Na Galera islet. The whole group moves together, so there is no need to worry about navigation or route planning.
The tour starts with a full equipment fitting and safety briefing before the group launches from Can Pastilla beach. From there, everyone paddles together towards the small islet of Na Galera, stopping along the way to snorkel and take in the surroundings.
After time at the islet, the group makes its way back to the starting point, completing the loop within the two hour session. It suits complete beginners as well as those who have kayaked before, since the instructor leads throughout.
Can Pastilla forms part of Playa de Palma, a long beach a short distance from central Palma with a promenade of cafes and restaurants running behind it. The bay stays fairly calm, which suits a guided group tour covering a couple of kilometres out and back.
Na Galera itself is a small islet noted locally for archaeological remains uncovered nearby, and it makes a natural point to pause during the paddle. From the water, the tour also offers a different perspective of the wider bay and the Palma coastline in the distance.
No previous kayaking experience is required, since the instructor explains the basics before departure and leads the group throughout the tour. A reasonable level of comfort in open water is useful given the snorkelling stop partway through.
The minimum age is 10, reflecting the distance covered and the time spent on open water as part of a larger group. Younger participants should be seated with a confident adult if travelling in a double kayak.
Having an instructor lead the tour means the route to Na Galera and back is taken care of, leaving you free to focus on paddling and enjoying the snorkelling stop rather than navigating. The tour also suits larger groups well, with space for up to 20 people.
Combining a guided paddle with a snorkelling break makes for a more varied outing than a straightforward kayak hire, giving you a proper taste of the bay's underwater side as well as the view from above.
