If you’re looking for a more exclusive coasteering experience, the Gold Select Private Coasteer is designed to deliver just that. With one-to-one guidance or a very small group set-up, this session is all about maximising adventure and tailoring the route to your preferences. Expect more jumps, deeper caves, longer traverses and hidden sections as your instructor takes you through a personalised ocean adventure in Cornwall.
Your adventure begins at the state-of-the-art centre near Towan Beach, where you’ll be equipped with premium wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. After a full briefing and safety checks, it’s just a short walk to Newquay harbour’s slipway, where the water awaits. From here you’ll descend into the ocean, leaving the harbour walls behind as you swim out towards the Gazzle peninsula.
With your instructor’s support, the focus is firmly on doing more. That means more jumps, deeper cave exploration, extended traverses and plenty of time to explore secret sections of the coastline that are rarely accessed. Routes are adjusted to suit your confidence and ability, creating a unique experience that blends adrenaline, exploration and skill development.
The Gold Select session makes the most of the intertidal zone around Newquay. Expect surging rapids, plunge pools and rock ledges perfect for leaps into the water. With extra time and dedicated guidance, this private coasteer offers the chance to truly push your limits in a controlled environment while also enjoying the wildlife and heritage of the Cornish coast.
This private session is based along the Newquay coastline, beginning at the harbour slipway and extending out towards the Gazzle peninsula. The location is renowned for its mix of caves, natural ledges, inlets and dramatic rock formations, offering the perfect playground for advanced coasteering routes.
The area also provides a different perspective on Newquay, with its combination of working harbour, historic features and sweeping ocean views. It’s one of Cornwall’s most versatile coasteering locations, making it ideal for a customised private adventure.
Participants should be water confident, though strong swimming ability is not required as buoyancy aids are provided. The pace and level of challenge are fully tailored, so whether you’re keen to push your boundaries or take things steadily, the session is adapted to suit.
Children from age 3 can take part when accompanied by a parent or guardian, making this suitable for families as well as individuals or pairs seeking a more adventurous outing.
The centre has been leading coasteering in Newquay since 1999, pioneering routes and even naming features such as Adventure Gully. With over 200,000 guests and the longest-running record in the area, the team has shaped coasteering in the UK and continues to raise standards.
Instructors are trained to the highest level, with many local and national coasteer guides having been taught through the centre’s own training programmes. As members of the National Coasteering Charter, with ongoing in-house training and risk assessment, the centre maintains an outstanding safety record while delivering high-quality, memorable experiences.
The Gold Coasteering session is a fully private activity designed for you and your group. It includes exclusive access to an instructor who will guide you through the whole route, making it a more personalised and flexible experience compared to standard group coasteering sessions. You’ll get all the necessary safety kit such as helmets, wetsuits, buoyancy aids, and in-water guidance.
Because it is private, the route and pace can be adapted to your group’s abilities and comfort levels. Whether you want bigger jumps, more swim sections, or time to enjoy exploring caves and gullies, your instructor can shape the session to match your preferences. This makes it particularly suitable for families, stag and hen groups, or those who just want a more tailored day out.
A typical Gold Coasteering session lasts around two and a half hours. This includes getting kitted up, a full safety briefing, and time on the water exploring the coastline. The exact time can vary depending on group size, ability levels, and how much time is spent at certain features along the route.
Because this is a private session, there’s no rush. Your instructor will give you the flexibility to make the most of the experience, so if your group enjoys climbing, jumping, or just swimming through the gullies, the time can be adjusted. This freedom is one of the main reasons people choose the Gold option over a standard coasteering session.
You don’t need to be a competition-level swimmer, but you should feel comfortable and confident in the water. Coasteering involves sections of swimming between features, often in open water with waves and currents. A basic ability to float, tread water, and swim short distances is essential for safety.
The instructor will always be close by to support you in the water, and buoyancy aids are worn throughout the activity to make swimming easier. For those who aren’t particularly strong swimmers, the private nature of the Gold session allows the instructor to adapt the route and ensure you still have a safe and enjoyable experience.
All specialist safety equipment is provided, but you’ll need to bring a few personal items. This includes a swimsuit to wear under the wetsuit, a towel for afterwards, and a pair of sturdy trainers or water shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Old trainers are often best as they provide good grip and foot protection on the rocks.
You may also want to bring a bottle of water, some snacks for after the session, and warm clothes to change into once you’re finished. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, it’s worth considering a strap for glasses or disposable lenses, as the sea conditions can be rough. Your instructor can give you advice on what works best.
Safety is the top priority in every coasteering session. The activity is led by qualified instructors who are trained in both technical guiding skills and rescue techniques. Before entering the water, you’ll have a detailed safety briefing and your instructor will assess the sea conditions to make sure it’s suitable.
All participants are provided with helmets, wetsuits, and buoyancy aids, and routes are carefully chosen to match the group’s ability and the tide conditions. Because the Gold session is private, the ratio of instructor to participants is much lower, giving you more focused supervision and reducing risks compared to larger group activities.
Yes, children can join the session, provided they meet the minimum age and are confident in the water. The private structure of the Gold experience makes it especially good for families, as the pace and activities can be adapted for younger participants while still giving adults plenty of challenge.
Parents or guardians must accompany children, and the instructor will adjust jumps and sections of the route to ensure everyone feels comfortable. If younger participants don’t want to attempt the bigger features, there are always alternative routes to keep them involved and safe.
Coasteering is very dependent on sea and weather conditions. If the conditions are unsafe, the session will not run. Instructors monitor tides, swell, and wind closely to ensure safety. If the sea is too rough for coasteering, you’ll usually be offered an alternative activity such as bodyboarding or coastal exploration.
In some cases, sessions can be rescheduled to a later date if the forecast improves. The private nature of the Gold package gives more flexibility, as instructors may also choose alternative, more sheltered sections of coastline to run the activity where conditions are safer.
