Achieving Divemaster status marks your first professional level within the RAID system. These sessions train you to plan, organise, and lead dives while supervising other certified divers safely. You’ll gain the skills, experience, and confidence required to operate in a professional dive environment.
The course begins with classroom and briefing sessions at the Gosforth centre. You’ll review dive theory, dive site selection, and planning strategies. Instruction covers dive group management, safety procedures, and professional responsibilities.
Open water dives are conducted at Capernwray quarry, Ellerton inland lake, and Beadnell Bay shore dives. You will lead dives under supervision, practice underwater navigation, and apply safety management techniques in real-world conditions.
Assessment dives test your ability to manage dive groups, respond to emergencies, and plan dives efficiently. By the end of the course, you’ll be prepared to operate as a professional dive leader and meet all RAID Divemaster requirements.
The Gosforth centre provides a central location for briefings, theory sessions, and logistical preparation. It is fully equipped for instructor-led sessions, ensuring you can focus on professional skill development.
Dive sites used for practical training offer varied conditions and depths suitable for assessing leadership, safety, and technical skills. Capernwray quarry has features suitable for navigation practice; Ellerton inland lake allows skill consolidation; and Beadnell Bay provides realistic shore dive challenges.
You must be at least 18 and hold a Master Rescue qualification, plus current First Aid and Oxygen Administration certificates. Participants are expected to have logged dives that meet RAID requirements for professional-level training.
Previous experience as a certified diver is essential, as the course focuses on leadership, management, and professional application of diving knowledge rather than basic skills. Instructors adapt guidance to challenge each diver appropriately.
Expert instructors provide hands-on training with a focus on leadership, safety, and confidence. You’ll learn in realistic conditions with personal feedback and structured professional guidance.
Training across multiple local sites ensures exposure to a range of environments, developing your ability to lead dives safely in different conditions. Structured assessment dives prepare you for professional responsibilities and build competence for future RAID certifications.
