Swap markers for bows and spend an hour on indoor archery tag in Portadown, mixing a short coaching burst with moving team games. We'll show you how to shoot foam-tipped arrows safely, then send you into the covered arena to dodge, aim, and work as a side.
Coaching comes first. Marshals show you the draw, the release, and how to handle a bow around other people, and most players pick up the shot within a few minutes. You do not need any archery experience before you arrive. Face protection goes on before you leave the briefing, then the group steps into the arena together.
After that the hour turns into a proper team scrap. You duck behind cover, dodge incoming arrows, and work together to take the other side out. Marshals stay with the games so the rules stay clear and the pace stays up. Breaks sit between rounds so you can drink, reset, and swap ends, then it is back on for another live game.
You'll play indoors at 10 Bleary Road, Portadown, BT63 5NE. The arena sits inside a historic mill, so you stay under cover from the first shot to the last and the weather outside never gets a say.
County Armagh is an easy run from Belfast on the M1, around 25 minutes in normal traffic. Follow the signs for the indoor combat centre once you reach Bleary Road, then come in for check-in. Leave a little extra time at the weekend so the whole group hears the briefing together.
You need to be 14 or over, able to draw a bow, and happy to follow marshal instructions. No previous archery experience is required. The coaching burst and kit are included, so you learn the shot on the day rather than arriving already practised.
Groups need 6 to 50 players so the team games work. Face protection is worn for the games. If your group is younger, splat or foam dart battles are the better fit. For older teens and adults who want something different from paint, this is the combat hour with bows.
Indoor play has run here since the first arenas opened in 2019, after conversion of the historic mill began in 2017. Trained marshals brief every archery tag group and stay on the field through the games, so first-timers are not left guessing how a live round works.
This hour feels different from paint or foam darts. The skill is in the shot and the dodge, and the games still move fast once the coaching is done. Coffee, hot food, and snacks are on site between rounds if you want a pause before the next battle.

The session lasts one hour and includes a short coaching burst, so you do not need to have shot a bow before you arrive.
Players need to be 14 or over. Everyone wears face protection for the games, and marshals will stop play if kit comes off.
No previous archery experience is required. Younger groups should choose splat or the foam dart session instead.
Yes. Groups need at least 6 players. That keeps the team games working rather than a handful of people on a large indoor field.
Stag groups, birthdays, and work teams are the usual fit. Let us know your numbers so we can hold the right slot.
No. Marshals show you the draw and the release before the first game. Most people are hitting the general area within a few minutes.
The games then focus on teamwork and movement as much as accuracy, so first-timers are not left behind once the live rounds start.
Yes. The arena is fully indoors, so rain, wind, or a dark evening does not stop play. You stay under cover from check-in through the last game.
Wear clothes you can move in and closed-toe trainers. A spare top is useful if someone gets warm during the hour.

No. You are not standing on a static range for the whole hour. Once the coaching burst is done, you play moving team games with cover and live opponents.
If your group wants a standing accuracy session, axe throwing is the closer activity. Archery tag is the combat version.

Bring a bottle of water. You can pick up drinks in the lobby if you want something else during a break.
Yes. Most people have never shot a bow in a moving game before. The first part of the hour is coaching, not a live battle, so you learn the release before anyone starts keeping score.
Marshals stay on the field and will pause a game if someone looks unsure. You only move into the faster rounds once the group has the basics.
Yes. The lobby has coffee, hot food, and snacks between games. Those are extra and chosen on the day if you want them.
Bring a bottle of water as well so you can drink during breaks. You can pick up more in the lobby if you run out.
