The AIDA 2 Freediving Course offers a complete introduction to freediving, combining theory, pool work and open-water sessions over 2.5 days or 4 half days. You’ll build a solid foundation in technique, safety and breath-hold skills while training to dive to depths of up to 20 metres. All equipment is included and no previous freediving experience is required.
The course begins with a comprehensive introduction to freediving theory, including safety protocols, the freediving breathing cycle, basic physiology, and equalisation techniques. You’ll also learn about different disciplines within freediving and become familiar with the use of specialised equipment. These sessions are reinforced with breathing and stretching routines to prepare your body and mind for both pool and ocean sessions.
In-water training is split between confined and open water. In static sessions, you’ll work on breath control and relaxation techniques, followed by dynamic sessions focusing on finning, streamlining and body positioning. Open-water dives take place just a short walk from the dive centre, where you’ll develop duck diving, equalising at depth, line diving with lanyards, turns, and safety procedures. You’ll work towards dives up to 20 metres and demonstrate a dynamic apnea swim of at least 40 metres. A final theory exam completes the certification.
All sessions are based in Puerto Del Carmen on the south-east coast of Lanzarote, known for its warm waters and excellent visibility. The dive centre is located at Calle Roque Nublo 2, within Jardines del Puerto Shopping Centre. From here, the ocean is just a two-minute walk, making access to training sites quick and convenient.
Puerto Del Carmen offers ideal conditions for beginner freedivers, with a variety of sheltered entry points and depth progression available directly from shore. The centre itself is well-equipped, and students benefit from high-quality Cressi Apnea gear, which is replaced regularly to maintain comfort and performance. Between sessions, there are cafés and shops nearby for easy refreshments.
Participants must be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200 metres without stopping. While most students are over 18, those aged 16 and above may take part with parental consent. No prior freediving experience is required, as the course starts with the fundamentals and builds up progressively.
It’s important that students are in good general health and confident in the water. Freediving requires focus, calmness and physical awareness, so a basic level of fitness and swimming ability will help you get the most out of the course. All training is adapted to suit your comfort level and progress.
This centre focuses on keeping group sizes small with a maximum of three students per instructor on the buoy, ensuring plenty of individual attention and support throughout the course. With a team of experienced instructors and assistants, they’re able to maintain quality training even when accommodating larger groups.
All sessions are run just minutes from the centre, allowing for a relaxed but efficient day structure. High-spec equipment from Cressi Apnea is provided as standard and renewed three times a year. With a flexible approach and a welcoming environment for all ages over 15, the team places safety and student progress at the heart of everything they do.
