Young riders can gain valuable bike handling skills and confidence in a safe and friendly setting tailored just for them. These sessions suit children aged 6–12 with no prior motorcycle experience, though they must be able to ride a push bike. Instruction is adapted to each child’s level, ensuring steady progress and plenty of fun throughout.
On arrival, participants complete registration before being fitted with a full riding kit, including boots, helmet, gloves, trials pants and a jersey. A short safety video introduces the key guidelines, after which riders meet their instructor. The session starts on open, flat ground where children are taught the basics of throttle control, braking and body positioning.
As riders grow more confident, they move onto ‘sections’ — marked obstacles designed to develop turning, balance and control on varied terrain. These sections are adapted in difficulty to match the ability of the group, ensuring everyone feels supported while also being challenged. The progression from simple to more complex riding exercises helps children steadily build their skills and confidence. At the end of the session, riders enjoy refreshments including a hot or cold drink and home baking.
The training takes place in Whitewell, Lancashire, in large outdoor fields purpose-suited to trials riding. The rural environment provides safe, open spaces for both basic skills practice and marked sections, away from any public roads. The peaceful setting helps riders focus and enjoy the experience without distraction.
Whitewell is a small village surrounded by attractive countryside and is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. The site is within easy reach of surrounding towns and offers on-site parking, making it convenient for families. The area’s mild climate during the training season makes it suitable for outdoor riding across spring, summer and early autumn.
For bike hire, riders must be aged 6 or above and able to ride a push bike unaided. Those bringing their own bike can join from age 4, provided they ride confidently. No prior motorbike experience is required for either option, but participants must be ready to follow instructions and try riding while standing on the pegs.
Parents or guardians of under-18 riders must remain on site during the session to ensure safety and quick assistance if needed. This also provides reassurance for the children as they learn.
These sessions are built specifically for young riders, combining expert tuition with a safe and enjoyable approach to trials riding. Using electric OSET bikes with adjustable controls ensures that children can learn at a pace that suits them, without being overwhelmed.
With small group sizes, each child receives focused guidance from experienced instructors who understand how to engage and motivate young riders. The balance of skill development, safety and fun creates an environment where children can build both ability and confidence while enjoying the sport.
The sessions cater to children aged 4 and above who bring their own bikes, and from 6 years old for those hiring bikes. The age range ensures that younger riders have the appropriate skills and physical development for safe participation. Groupings and activities are tailored to suit these age categories, helping children learn at a comfortable pace.
Parents should ensure their child fits the age and skill requirements for the session level they book. Younger children who bring their own bikes benefit from basic skill-building, while those hiring bikes start from beginner levels with full support. This structure allows children to progress safely through their trials experience.
Electric OSET trials bikes are provided for hire and come in various sizes suitable for children aged 6 and above. These bikes feature adjustable speed controls with parent lock options, which make them safe and easy to manage for beginners. The electric assist allows riders to focus on technique without being overwhelmed by traditional pedals or gears.
Children who prefer to bring their own bikes can do so, but these should be suitable for trials riding with good balance and control. Using electric OSETs helps beginners gain confidence in a controlled way, while more experienced riders benefit from appropriate bike responsiveness.
Each rider is provided with a full set of trials riding kit including boots, helmet, gloves, trials pants, and a jersey. The kit is selected to offer protection and comfort while riding, ensuring safety throughout the session. All equipment is properly fitted by instructors to suit the child’s size.
While the available clothing sizes cover most children, the maximum sizes are limited for jersey, pants, boots, and helmets. Parents should check the size availability if their child is older or larger than average to ensure the right fit.
Sessions last two hours and begin with a safety briefing and fitting of equipment. Riders start on flat, open ground learning the basics of bike control such as balance, braking, and throttle control. Once confident, they progress to marked obstacle sections designed to build skills gradually.
Instructors tailor the difficulty of sections according to each rider’s ability. This adaptive approach keeps the session engaging and ensures children develop their skills at a comfortable pace while being challenged appropriately.
Yes, all sessions include a hot or cold drink and home baking to help young riders refuel after their training. These refreshments provide a welcome break and an opportunity for children to socialise and relax after active riding.
This small touch helps keep energy levels up and adds to the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of the sessions. Parents can rest assured that their child will be looked after throughout the experience.
Beginner sessions start from absolute basics, assuming no prior trials experience. Instructors introduce bike handling fundamentals on flat ground, including balance, pedal control, and body positioning. The electric OSET bikes’ adjustable controls allow children to learn safely without being overwhelmed.
The session moves at a pace that suits the group and individual riders, with lots of encouragement and support. This ensures that even complete beginners can build confidence and skills in a positive environment.
