Hot water after a Poon Hill morning is the point of this nine-day walk from Kathmandu: Ghorepani, sunrise at 3,210 metres, then a descent to the mineral pools at Tatopani. Tourist buses run Kathmandu to Pokhara both ways (about seven hours). Groups stay between 2 and 12 people from age 12.
A representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and takes you to a Kathmandu hotel. The next day you'll take the tourist bus to Pokhara, about seven hours, then drive to Nayapul and walk along the Bhurungdi Khola via Hile and Tirkhedhunga. After lunch a steep two-hour climb takes you to Ulleri, a Magar village, for the first lodge night.
The following day is about five hours through rhododendron and oak forest to Ghorepani. Your guide wakes you for the hour-long walk to Poon Hill at 3,210 metres. On a clear morning you'll see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhare. After breakfast you'll walk down to Sikha via Chitre, then about four hours down to Tatopani.
Lunch is in the village, then you'll soak in the natural hot springs and sleep at a lodge in the same place. From there a local jeep or bus returns you to Pokhara, and a tourist bus takes you back to Kathmandu for a farewell dinner with a cultural show. Lodge days include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lunch on the bus days is your own. Bring a swimsuit for the springs.
The Modi Khola meets the road at Nayapul, where you leave the vehicle and follow the Bhurungdi Khola toward Hile, Tirkhedhunga, and Ulleri. Rhododendron and oak climb to Ghorepani. Poon Hill is the 3,210-metre sunrise ridge above the lodge. Sikha and Chitre sit on the descent toward the Kali Gandaki.
Tatopani is the hot-spring village on the river, lower and milder after the soak. Pokhara and Kathmandu are the hotel cities at each end. You start and finish at Tribhuvan International Airport unless you are already in a city hotel.
A steep two-hour stone climb into Ulleri after lunch, about five hours through forest to Ghorepani, and a long descent to Tatopani should feel within reach. Previous trekking experience is not required.
The minimum age is 12. Groups start at two people. Bring a passport, broken-in boots, and a swimsuit for the springs. Tell us about any medical needs before you come.
Springs and lodges are booked before you leave Kathmandu, together with tourist-bus seats, the Nayapul transfer, an English-speaking guide from the airport through Tatopani, and the farewell dinner with a cultural show. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the lodge days are arranged with those teahouses, so you are not hunting for a room in Ulleri after the stone steps.
Groups stay between 2 and 12 so the Ulleri staircase does not jam. The same Kathmandu team will hold the Poon Hill start if the ridge is unsafe in the dark, and will keep the lodge plan even when cloud mutes the sunrise.
