A week on Strandhill beach mixes surf lessons with a drumming workshop for ages 7 to 15. Monday to Friday in July and August, children spend about 2.5 hours a day on the sand and in the water, then sit down for a rhythm session. Boards, wetsuits and boots are included. A diploma is given at the end of the week.
Each day starts at the National Surf Centre with kit and a brief, then time in white water they can stand in. The coach builds from the day before, so Wednesday is not a repeat of Monday if they already stood up. After the surf, the group joins a drumming workshop. Hot showers are in the centre before they leave.
Please arrive 15 minutes early each day. An adult can stay and watch or drop them with the coaches. We confirm each day's start around tide and swell. Lunch is not included.
The camp meets at the National Surf Centre on Shore Road, Strandhill, F91 XH50, opposite the main beach. Parking is nearby. Cafes sit a short walk away if you want to wait with a drink.
Strandhill is a short drive from Sligo town. The sandy break gives learners a bottom they can stand on, which helps a first week in the sea.
No surfing experience is needed. Children should be happy in the sea and able to follow a simple instruction on the sand. The booking is for ages 7 to 15. An adult can stay on the beach or drop them with the Garda-vetted coaches.
Bring swimwear, a towel and a warm layer each day. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. Tell us any medical notes, including asthma, before Monday.
Coaches hold Irish Surfing Association, Water Safety Ireland and child protection awards, and they are Garda vetted. Zuhe has taught for more than 16 years and is used to children who have never stood on a board.
The week ends with a diploma. If you want three flexible lessons rather than a set week, book the summer package instead.
Meet at the National Surf Centre, Shore Road, Strandhill, Co. Sligo, F91 XH50 each day. Park near the centre and walk to the beachfront building.
Please arrive 15 minutes early. We confirm each day's start time once the tide is clear.
Seven to fifteen. Children under seven need a private lesson. Anyone 16 or over should book the adult camp, which runs in the same months on the same beach.
Tell us ages when you book so we can put the right boards out. Mixed ages still share the week, with the coach adapting the water time.
Monday to Friday in July and August. Each day is about two and a half hours including changing, plus the drumming workshop. We confirm the start once the tide is clear.
This is a set week. If you want three lessons spread through the summer instead, book the three-lesson package.
Yes. You can stay and watch from the beach, or drop them at the National Surf Centre and collect them at the end of the session. Coaches are Garda vetted and hold child protection awards.
Please arrive 15 minutes early on the first day so we can take any medical notes and show them the changing rooms. Pack a bag for wet swimwear.
A rhythm session during the week, after the surf. Children learn simple beats together. It is part of the camp, not an optional extra you book separately.
They do not need a drum at home. If your child would rather skip a music session, say so when you book and we will say what we can do that day.
No. Most children on this week have never stood on a board. Monday starts with paddling and the pop-up on the sand, then white water they can stand in.
If they already stand up, say so on Monday so the week is not a first-stand script. The coach builds from what they did the day before.
No. The booking is the surf lessons, the kit, the drumming workshop and the showers. Bring a snack and a water bottle if they get hungry after the water.
Cafes sit a short walk from the centre if you are staying in the village. We do not serve food as part of the camp.
The National Surf Centre on Shore Road, Strandhill, F91 XH50, every day. Changing rooms, hot showers and toilets are in the building, a short walk from the sand.
Parking is nearby. If a day's start has to move with the tide, we send the new time. Check your messages the evening before.
A surfboard, a wetsuit and boots every day, fitted at the centre. We match the board to their weight and how the beach is working.
Their own full-length wetsuit is fine if it fits. Leave phones and bags in the changing room or with you. Give the coach any medication they need in the water.
Rain does not stop a day. We cancel or move a session when the swell or wind makes the beach unsafe. The drumming workshop can still run if the sea is the problem.
If we have to cancel a day we cannot replace, we rearrange or refund that day. Check your messages the evening before if you are staying out of town.
Swimwear, a towel, a warm dry layer and sunscreen each day. A water bottle helps. Get them into swimwear before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.
Flip-flops are useful for the walk from the car. Pack a bag for wet swimwear. Leave valuables with you rather than in a changing room.
