This 3-day trek offers a challenging and rewarding route through the High Atlas Mountains, leading up to the summit of Mount Toubkal. Starting from the village of Imlil, the trail winds through high passes, hidden waterfalls, and remote valleys before reaching the highest peak in North Africa.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Azib n’Tamsoult
The trip begins with a transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m), a well-known mountain village that serves as the gateway to the Atlas. Once there, you’ll begin your hike, ascending to the Tizi-n-Mezzik pass (2,489m), where you’ll get sweeping views over both Imlil and the Azzaden Valley. Lunch is served en route by your support team in a juniper forest. In the afternoon, descend into the valley to the summer hamlet of Azib n’Tamsoult (2,250m), where you’ll spend the night in a refuge or camp. Approx. 5 hours of walking.
Day 2: Azib n’Tamsoult – Aguelzim Pass – Toubkal Refuge
The second day involves a steady and more demanding climb via the Ighouliden waterfalls and up to the Aguelzim Pass at 3,560m. This section includes excellent views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. After a scenic lunch stop, continue on to the Toubkal Refuge (Neltner or Mouflon Hut), where you'll stay the night with other trekkers preparing for summit day. Approx. 7 hours of walking.
Day 3: Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech
An early start allows time to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m) before the sun rises too high. From the top, you’ll take in extensive views across the Atlas range and, on a clear day, glimpses of the Sahara. After descending past the refuge and back to Imlil (a descent of almost 2,500m), you'll be transferred to Marrakech in the late afternoon. Approx. 8–9 hours of trekking.
Located in central Morocco, the Atlas Mountains are one of North Africa’s most iconic mountain ranges, home to the country’s highest peaks. The area is known for its varied terrain—ranging from narrow gorges and alpine valleys to steep ridgelines and scree slopes—and supports several traditional Berber villages, many of which you’ll pass through or stay near.
Your route follows a lesser-travelled path into the Toubkal region, providing a more scenic and peaceful alternative to the direct trail. The mountains offer not just natural beauty but a deeper cultural experience through encounters with local communities and traditional Moroccan hospitality. With local guides who have years of experience in the region, you’ll get both a safe trekking experience and a better understanding of the mountain environment and its people.
This trek includes one night in a mountain refuge or campsite at Azib n’Tamsoult and one night at the Toubkal Refuge. The first night’s accommodation is in a remote summer village, offering basic but comfortable shelter in either a simple stone refuge or tents depending on conditions and group preference.
On the second night, you'll stay at the Toubkal Refuge (Neltner or Mouflon), a shared mountain hut situated at the base of the summit route. These refuges provide dorm-style sleeping, communal dining areas, and essential facilities for high-altitude trekking. Meals are freshly prepared by your support team and served at the refuge or along the trail.
Participants should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking for several hours a day, including steep ascents and descents. Although prior trekking experience is useful, it’s not essential.
The route is guided and supported throughout, with your guides ensuring appropriate pacing, rest stops, and support for altitude adjustment.
The trek is led by trusted local guides who have extensive knowledge of the terrain, weather patterns, and cultural context of the region. They’ll support you throughout the experience with clear route planning, high safety standards, and plenty of local insight into the Berber way of life.
This trip is well suited to those looking for a guided mountain experience with plenty of cultural depth and a strong focus on participant well-being.
The meeting point is in Marrakech, with pick-up and drop off available from your hotel.

Such a great experience!! He was a very good tour guide who helped us all be safe.
The highlight of our trip to Morocco was the two days we spent in the Atlas Mountains, organised by Mohamed Adventuro, we left Marrakech unaware of just how beautiful and friendly this part of the world would be. Two days hiking around the mountains in the shadow of Mount Toubkal,…
The actual trip was fantastic overall- Rachid picked me up as planned and we went up to Imlil. However, the route was not as described in the Adventuro listing and was hard work (745 metres ascent total in 12.5km, the last 5km being about 500m ascent all uphill) not a…
My friend and I had an amazing time on our guided trail run in the Atlas Mountains. Our guide was the local 10km trail champion and he adjusted to the distance and pace we wanted to run, taking us on a beautiful trail through the mountains and villages. A delicious…
We had a fantastic trail run in the Atlas Mountains. We did 20km with 1000m elevation gain. The scenery was incredible. Our guide was able to run at any pace and the trails chosen were great. The lunch afterwards was also delicious. Would highly recommend and wish I could do…
