This one-hour introductory sailing lesson in a Laser Pico is perfect for anyone looking to try sailing for the first time. Under the guidance of our experienced instructor, you will learn the basics of rigging and derigging the boat, as well as essential sailing techniques such as turning the boat and sailing across the wind. The instructor will be close by in a safety craft to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
During this one-hour session, you'll start with an introduction to the Laser Pico, learning how to rig and prepare the boat for sailing. The instructor will explain the key components and safety measures to ensure you're comfortable and ready to begin.
Once on the water, you’ll practise basic sailing techniques, including how to turn the boat and navigate across the wind. The instructor will be nearby in a safety craft to provide guidance and support, making sure you feel confident throughout the lesson. You'll finish by learning how to derig the boat and discuss what you've learned, leaving you with a solid foundation in sailing.

Founded in 1979 on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, our centre began with a small fleet of canoes and a narrowboat, offering trips to young people from disadvantaged areas. In 1994, we moved to our current location at Queens Dock, expanding our facilities and range of activities to better serve the community.
You should wear old trainers or water shoes and bring a towel. We provide wetsuits to keep you comfortable during the lesson.
