Morocco is one of the finest trekking countries on earth. The High Atlas mountains rise dramatically behind Marrakech to Mount Toubkal (4,167m), North Africa's highest peak, with Berber villages, valleys and passes that have been walked for centuries; beyond the mountains, the Sahara offers desert treks among the dunes. Guided by local experts who know the terrain, the culture and the seasons, trekking in Morocco combines genuine adventure with rich Berber hospitality.
The High Atlas and Mount Toubkal
The classic objective is the ascent of Mount Toubkal — typically a two-day trek from the village of Imlil, accessible to fit walkers with no technical climbing in summer (winter ascents need crampons and ice axe). The wider High Atlas offers multi-day village-to-village treks through valleys, terraced fields and high passes. The Sahara adds a completely different experience: camel-supported desert treks among the dunes, sleeping under the stars.
Guided treks for all levels
Morocco's local guides run everything from day hikes to multi-day expeditions, handling the logistics, mountain refuges and cultural connections that make a trek here special. No experience is needed for the summer treks beyond reasonable fitness.
